Onto the 2010 Tight Ends – (TE) Rankings –

JERMAINE GRESHAM, Oklahoma

Gresham is an athletic marvel that could have easily left for the NFL last season. His trio of size (6”6, 260) dexterity and college production are rare and obviously hot commodities. He will make some team’s offense instantly more dynamic; particularly because the TE is more and more utilized in recent years. He could work on his blocking, but what fleet-footed pass-catching NFL TE couldn’t? Gresham would be a good fit in New England or Baltimore, and he will be off the board to someone in the first round. It goes without saying that it could be possible for him to be a steady All-Star at his position for years to come.

ROB GRONKOWSKI, Arizona

This Pac-10 product is a well-rounded guy and has a skill-set to be a steady starter at the next level, but there could be grave concerns about his injury history. Gronkowski has a precedent for back injuries, which is sketchy because that’s the type of injury that lends itself to repeated trouble. He didn’t play football in 2009. Yet, he’s got great hands, he’s a willing and able blocker and a red-zone threat. He’s fluid, he puts time into honing his routes and he’s a football player’s football player. Gronkowski ought to go in the second round and hopefully he shakes the injury demons.

AARON HERNANDEZ, Florida

Hernandez grew into a favorite target of revered Florida passer Tim Tebow and he should be able to snag some TDs at the next level also. He is a smooth athlete who is adept at grabbing extra yards after the catch. He has soft hands, will hang in tough over the middle and because his size isn’t amazing (6”2, 250) he’s a prototypical H-back. He reminds a lot of scouts of the Jets’ Dustin Keller, who is also a smallish TE that doesn’t love to block. He’s a one-dimensional pass catcher; if a team is looking for that he can certainly bring it, but he shouldn’t get drafted before the third round.

DORIN DICKERSON, Pitt

This man worked his tail off at the Combine, and it showed. Dickerson ran a blazing 4.4 forty going at 226 lbs! He played multiple positions for the Panthers and could see time as a spread tight end and a little wide-out for NFL teams. If this wasn’t enough, he finished fourth-best on the bench with 24 reps. Given his size, he likely won’t be an every-down TE in the NFL, but he is a very intriguing prospect as an H-back.

ED DICKSON, Oregon

At 6”4, 250 lbs, Dickson is another great pass-catcher who is also a willing blocker, though he doesn’t really have the strength to be nasty in the run game. He’s a dexterous player that makes cuts on a dime and is always in control of his body. He’s also hungry and has a willingness to improve. Though his hands are soft, Dickson will get a case of the ole’ alligator arms going over the middle every so often, which could lower his stock somewhat.

Honorable Mention: Jimmy Graham, Miami-Fl This pick is a gamble; Graham is a raw prospect. But the athletic potential is undeniable: Antonio Gates-esque, perhaps?
