Turkey and football betting. It’s tough to find a better tandem than that. Here are some picks for you to ponder on the NFL’s Thanksgiving Thursday.

New England Patriots vs Detroit Lions

12:30 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Patriots -6.5

We should expect a shootout in Thursday’s first game. That’s right – more a shootout than a blowout. It’s a given that the Pats will put up some major points. The Lions are improved defensively, largely thanks to Ndamukong Suh, but I doubt they’re ready for Tom Brady.

On the other hand, the Pats have the second-worst pass defense in the NFL. Shaun Hill flirted with 300 yards against the Cowboys’ fifth-ranked pass defense last week so I think he can connect with Calvin Johnson for a score or two in garbage time. The Pats should still win, but the Lions will keep this game watchable. Prediction: Patriots 38, Lions 24

New Orleans Saints vs. Dallas Cowboys

4:15 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Saints -3.5

With the Cowboys at home and seemingly relishing the spoiler role of late, this game could be deceptively close. The Saints offense is catching fire; Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes last week and could have Reggie Bush back from a broken leg on Thursday. But the Cowboys’ “D” is improving, at least in the pass rushing department, and will keep Brees honest.

Then again, New Orleans’ “D” is no slouch. The Saints are fourth in the NFL in total defense and second against the pass. Dallas quarterback Jon Kitna has been surprisingly competent thus far in relief of Tony Romo but I don’t know if he can handle this test. Prediction: Saints 28, Cowboys 21

Cincinnati Bengals vs. New York Jets

8:20 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Jets -9
Bet now @ BetUs.com!

The Jets are brimming with confidence and the Bengals are a mess right now. To me, that means we’ll see one of two extremes in this game; the Jets absolutely humiliating the Bengals or the Jets totally overlooking the Bengals and losing.

I’ll go with the former. The Bengals have really struggled against the run this season and this feels more like a LaDainian Tomlinson/Shonn Greene game than a Mark Sanchez/Santonio Holmes show. You never know what Terrell Owens might bring to the table but I like the Jets to pick on Carson Palmer in this one. Prediction: Jets 30, Bengals 13
