His bold prediction that his team is a lock to win it all this season is not without merit after leading it to back-to-back appearances in the AFC title game in 2009 and 2010.

Jets Super Bowl Lines & Predictions

The question remains, has this team done enough this past offseason to get it over the hump in 2011?

New York’s offense will once again primarily rely on the run as it has done in Ryan’s two-year tenure. LaDainian Tomlinson had a resurgent season in 2010 with 914 yards rushing on 219 carries, but look for Shonn Greene to be the lead back this year along with Joe McKnight in an expanded role, given that Tomlinson is entering his 11th season in the league.

The primary difference between this year roster and 2010’s is at wide receiver. The Jets were able to resign Santonio Holmes, but Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery are gone.

In their place, New York added Plaxico Burress, who has been reinstated in the NFL after serving time for a gun charges, and Derrick Mason, who was released from Baltimore. It also used a fifth-round pick to select WR Jeremy Kerley to add some depth. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

This should provide enough weapons for third-year QB Mark Sanchez to improve an offense that was ranked 22nd in passing in 2010.

Where Ryan’s team shines the brightest is on the defensive side of the ball. He came up short in his bid to land CB Nnamdi Asomugha, but the resigning of Antonio Cromartie solidifies a secondary that has Derrelle Revis on the other corner.

The Jets focused on the front seven in the draft with the addition of defensive linemen Muhammad Wilkerson in the first round and Kendrick Ellis in the second.

Wilkerson has already been turning heads at camp, and could be the missing piece that can bolster New York’s pass rush.

The Jets will once again be extremely competitive in the division, but it remains to be seen if they actually did enough to overtake New England this season.

If Burress can quickly regain the form that made him unstoppable for that other team in New York, their chances would rise dramatically.
