The Patriots were stunned by Baltimore 33-14 in the 2009 Wildcard Round and beaten by the AFC East-rival Jets 28-21 in the Divisional Round last season.

Pats Super Bowl Lines & Predictions

Bill Belichick’s team opens the 2011 as the odds-on-favorite to get back to the Super Bowl from the AFC for the first time since 2007 and a slight favorite to had a fourth world title to it impressive resume.

New England’s offense should be better than ever with a healthy and motivated Tom Brady running the show.

Last season’s league MVP helped this squad end the year ranked eighth in total yards per game (363.8) and first in points (32.4). It was extremely balanced between the run and the pass with RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis leading the way on the ground with 1,008 yards rushing and WR Wes Welker adding 86 receptions for 848 yards through the air. The Patriots used the draft to beef up its offensive line with the selection of Nate Solder in the first round, and retained All-Pro G Logan Mankins with a one-year franchise tag.

The only real issue for this team could be on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, New England was ranked 25th overall and 30th against the pass. The addition of DB Ras-I Dowling in the second round of the draft should help add some depth to the secondary.

Belichick also took a chance on trading for disgruntled DL Albert Haynesworth, who was previously in Washington. This move is already being scrutinized as questionable at best, as Haynesworth has already been a no-show at a few practices in training camp.

The Patriots recently added DE Shaun Ellis from the Jets and another Redskin DE Andre Carter in an effort to beef up an undersized line that had a tendency to get pushed around a bit last season.

The battle to get back to the Super Bowl could come down to two crucial battles in the division, as the Jets believe they have what it takes to take the AFC East crown this year. However, with a quarterback like Brady behind center and a master-mind like Belichick behind the overall controls.

It is never a good idea to bet against this team no matter what New York’s Rex Ryan would try and lead you to believe.
