The Houston Texans slipped to third in the AFC South last season with a record of 6-10, which has to be considered a major disappointment after ending up with the first winning season in franchise history in 2009 with a record of 9-7.

It is hard to put an exact finger on what is wrong with this team, as it just cannot seem to stand success.

Texans Super Bowl Lines &; Predictions

You would have to think that Head Coach Gary Kubiak could be on a short leash if his team gets off to another slow start this year.

Offense is definitely not the problem with this team as the roster is filled to the brim with star-power especially at the skill positions. QB Matt Schaub was fourth in the NFL last season in passing yards with 4,370 while his favorite receiver, Andre Johnson was sixth with 1,216 receiving yards. RB Arian Foster came out of nowhere to lead the league in rushing with 1,616 yards.

The Texans were ranked third in total yards; seventh in rushing and fourth in passing. Overall, they were ranked ninth in scoring with an average of 24.4 points a game.

All three of these studs are signed and ready to go for this season, so expect a repeat performance in 2011. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The defense was a whole other story as mental breakdowns, blown opportunities, and all-around inconsistent play once again plagued this squad. It ended the 2010 season ranked 30th in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed. The Texans were especially awful against the pass, where they gave up an average of 267.5 yards a game, which was the highest in the NFL.

Kubiak used the draft to try and address some of the issues with six of the team’s eight picks spent on this side of the ball. He took two defensive linemen (J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed) in the first two rounds and a trio of defense backs with his next three picks.

Look for the Texans to make a strong push to sign free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha, formally of Oakland, in an effort to further sure-up their woeful secondary.

This team is a few players away from wrestling the AFC South crown away from Indianapolis as long as Kubiak can get these guys to give 100 percent each and every week.

With an excellent opportunity to fill some of the last remaining holes on defense through free agency, the Texans would have only themselves to blame for ending this season with another losing record.
