St. Louis Rams 2015 Gambling Odds & Handicapping Preview

2015 St. Louis Predictions

The St. Louis Rams enter the 2015-16 NFL Season with their heads held high, but it’s tough to imagine them forcing the likes of the Seattle Seahawks or Arizona Cardinals into a battle for the divisional crown by the time the regular season comes to a close.

Sam Bradford is gone, which means this franchise can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing it won’t have to cross its fingers and count its lucky stars regarding the health of its supposed-to-be franchise quarterback.

Instead, Nick Foles is at the helm. This offense ha enough tools to find success, but it needs a player like Foles to jumpstart the production.

For health reasons alone, we know Foles is going to be an upgrade over Bradford. Foles did miss eight games last year, but he appears to be worth the gamble considering Bradford’s history is far more extensive than Foles’ at this point in the process.

As mentioned above, the tools are in place for this offense to produce, but Foles needs to be accurate and quick in his passes to make that happen. Names such as Brian Quick, Kenny Britt, Stedman Bailey and Jared Cook don’t jump off the page as anything close to elite, but there are certainly more anemic offensive sets out there around the league.

What will help Foles and Co. adjust to one another is a strong running game. Todd Gurley, who was an absolute stud at the collegiate level, will look to keep his elite status as an NFL back. The catch, of course, is that he’s recovering from a torn ACL. Tre Mason is there just in case Gurley doesn’t recover at a pace that is hoped for, but having Gurley on board should prove to be the difference maker.

Defensively, this side of the ball will be the side that bails out the other on more than one occasion. The linebacker core is solid and an secondary with potential has shown recently that it can be one of the most consistent groups in the league.

Don’t forget, either, that this group knows how to put pressure on an opposing quarterback. That’s something every team needs, but not all can call it a consistent part of their success.

Rams Betting Outlook:

Las Vegas has this group’s win total set to 7.5. Although seven wins certainly isn’t an unrealistic thought, we’ll give this group the benefit of the doubt and push them up to eight with the preseason just around the corner.

Don’t expect greatness out of this group this season, but don’t expect them to be in the basement of the division, either. Part of that is because of the downslide the San Francisco 49ers have endured, but the other part is that the Rams should be improved with Foles leading the way and a (hopefully) healthy Gurley on board.

Although ‘mediocre’ isn’t an adjective most teams embrace, the Rams are on the upswing trending toward competitive. That should be good enough this season, as St. Louis will look to build upon a new-look offense in the coming years.
