NFL Pre-Season Football – Tennessee vs Seattle Preview

The Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans face off on Saturday at CeturyLink Field in Seattle, as both teams begin their 2012 NFL Preseason schedule.

Like most of the preseason games this year and any other, this one is very tough to find any real advantage for either team, because you just don’t know who’s going to be on the field.

Both of these teams have similar expectations for 2012. Get back to the postseason.

Another similarity the Seahawks and the Titans share, is that both teams have quarterback battles brewing.

In Tennessee, you have the battle between Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker.

While Hasselback got nearly almost all of the snaps a year ago, the Titans are probably to the point where they kind of want to give Locker the keys to the offense and just let him go.

Hasselbeck definitely will not go down without a fight though, as he had another good season in 2011, throwing for over 3,500 yards with 18 touchdowns. So, Locker will have to play very well if he wants to steal the starting spot away from the wily veteran.

Meanwhile, the quarterback battle in Seattle is interesting to say the least. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

You have not two, but three guys apparently vying for the job.

You know it is a real competition when the coach comes out and says that the man starting the first preseason game will play the entire first half. And that’s the case with Matt Flynn.

The other two competing are last year’s starter, Tavaris Jackson, and rookie Russell Wilson.

All three players will have equal opportunities to show what they can do; in what is sure to be one of the more wide-open battles, you will see all preseason long.

Defensively, the clubs are analogous in the secondary, but are stark contrasts when it comes to the pass rush.

Seattle needs to pressure the passer better as Chris Clemons is a year older, while the Titans have an experienced linebacking trio in Colin McCarthy, Will Witherspoon, and Akeem Ayers. All who get after the quarterback on a regular basis.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Seattle 28, Tennessee 14– Seattle is one of the best home teams in football year after year and Pete Carroll likes to win every game whether they count or not.
