Chargers vs. Jets Gambling & NFL Free Prediction (Week 7)

The Chargers vs. Jets will both be trying to pick up a win on Sunday when they battle in NYC.

Gambling Matchup Week 7 – San Diego Chargers vs NY Jets

The Chargers, winners of three straight, come into MetLife fresh off of a bye week looking to continue their run of good play. The Jets are on the flip side however, they have lost three of their last four.

San Diego v New York
Venue/Stadium: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Time/Date: 1:00 PM ET, Sunday, October 23, 2011
NFL Odds From: Bet Online
Spread (ATS): Jets -2.5
Over/Under: 43.5

The bright side may be that they have yet to drop a game at home this season.

This San Diego bunch is enjoying one of the best starts in franchise history this season, although so far it’s been against some mediocre competition. But they have taken care of business nonetheless. This will be their second test of the season. As we all know, they never really threatened the Patriots in their meeting earlier this year.

It should be interesting to see what San Diego has learned, and improved upon since then. They haven’t been at their best on the road this season. They are giving up just under 30 points per game this year on the road. Compare that to the 17 they give up at home, and it’s no wonder why they have had a harder time away from California.

This game features two of the best secondary units in the game. Both are in the top five in terms of passing yards allowed. This seems to be horrid news for the Jets as their passing game hasn’t been good at all this season. It will be interesting to see if they are able to figure things out, as it looks like this may be how they have to approach this one.

The Chargers however, possess one of the strongest passing attacks in all of football. The Revis/Jackson match-up will be one of the better cornerback/wide receiver match-ups all year long. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Lucky for the Chargers, the one area they haven’t been great at on defense this year, just happens to be an awful area for the Jets. This of course referring to the rushing defense/offense of the Chargers and Jets respectively.

The Chargers rank 17th in the league in rushing defense. While the Jets rank 31st in rushing offense, so that seems to be a non factor here.

Now if you flip it around. Compare the Chargers run offense, to the Jets run defense. This is where the game may just be decided.

The Jets give up 132 yards per game on the ground. That is good for 28th in the NFL. On the other side, the Chargers ground attack has been revitalized this year by Ryan Matthews. He has shown this year why San Diego spent a first rounder on him two years ago. They are putting up just over 120 yards a game. Good for a top 10 ranking.

This one seems set for a Charger victory if you base this one solely on the stats. There just doesn’t seem to be any other way around it. The Chargers have a much better offense. While they possess very similar strengths and weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball. I expect the Jets to keep this one close down to the end though.

Rivers has been turnover prone thus far this season, and we all know that the Jets can get their fair share of takeaways.

Matt’s Prediction: Chargers 20 – Jets 17
