Jets vs. Broncos Gambling & NFL Free Prediction (Week 11)

N.Y. Jets vs. Denver Broncos on tap this week in Thursday Night Football. This seems like a trap game on paper for the Jets, but after coming off of a loss, I’m not sure that they will come out with anything less than their best.

Thursday Night Football – Jets vs Broncos Preview

The Broncos, winners in three of four, look to continue their recent surge behind Tim Tebow and his option attack. Meanwhile, the Jets are looking to bounce back from the thrashing they took at the hand of the New England Patriots last time out.

When: Thursday, November 17, 2011, 8:20 PM EST
Where: Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, CO
TV: NFL Network

New York got knocked back into reality this past week as they took on the Patriots. The offense was dreadful, the defense was awful, and they even faltered on special teams with a missed field goal. Now they will need to dig to get back to the things that made them good during their recent three game winning streak this week against the Broncos.

The key ingredients during that surge was establishing the run, staying strong on defense, and limiting their turnovers on the offensive side of the ball. The turnover bug was the main culprit against the Pats. Sometimes it seems that the Jets’ Mark Sanchez just can’t resist throwing a pick in a big spot.

Meanwhile, the Broncos may not look like much on paper for the Jets, but they employ a bend, but don’t break defense. They will give up yardage, but they somehow have been able to keep teams out of the end zone as of late. Seeing as the Jets do a pretty good job of that on their own, this may be a game the Broncos can take at home.

The Jets have one thing going from them–they can stop the pass. That is probably the biggest strength on this team. They fall in the top ten in passing defense. The problem with that in this particular match-up, is that the Broncos simply do not pass the ball. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Proof? Quarterback Tim Tebow completed just two passes a week ago.

Where the Jets fall a bit short is in their rushing defense, and this just happens to be the biggest strength for the Denver Broncos. They rank number two in the NFL in rushing yards per game, and that number has been constantly rising since they inserted Tebow in at the quarterback position.

The downfall for the Broncos may lie on the injury report this week. Both their first and second string running backs will likely be out for this game. That is a huge blow for a team that ran the ball 55 times a week ago.

Running back Lance Bell will look to step in and keep the ground game rolling. He came on after the two in front of him went off with injuries, and picked up nearly 100 yards on 30 carries. Not bad for a guy who hadn’t had 30 carries on the season up to that point.

Matt’s Prediction: Jets 24, Broncos 20 —

This seems like a trap game on paper for the Jets, but after coming off of a loss, I’m not sure that they will come out with anything less than their best. The Broncos will keep this one close at home, but without their top two backs, the Broncos will come up short.
