Chiefs vs. Colts Gambling & NFL Free Prediction (Week 5)

The Chiefs vs. Colts will both be trying to pick up a win on Sunday when they battle at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Gambling Matchup Week 5 – KC Chiefs vs Indianapolis Colts

If you’d asked last January who the two worst teams in the NFL were going to be going into Week 5, not very many people would have answered with the Kansas City Chiefs. And no sane person would have included the Indianapolis Colts on that list either.

Venue/Stadium: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana
Time/Date: 1:00 PM ET, Sunday, October 9, 2011
NFL Odds From: 5 Dimes
Spread (ATS): Indianapolis -2
Over/Under: 38.5

But here we are in Week 5, and the Chiefs (1-3) are sitting on a single victory while Indy (0-4) is still searching for their first win. Suffice to say, someone is going to have a good day when the two teams meet up on Sunday in Indiana.

For the Colts, the big story this season hasn’t been who’s playing quarterback, it’s who is not playing quarterback. With future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning out indefinitely with a neck injury, Indianapolis has struggled to fill his king sized shoes.

Both Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter have tried and failed to earn that elusive first victory for the Colts. Collins earned a concussion for his efforts and no one is really sure who will wind up starting on Sunday.

But Manning isn’t the only starter sitting on the Indy sidelines. At least seven others, including defensive captain Gary Brackett are out for the rest of the year.

Most teams in the NFL would see the hospital beds on the opposing sideline as a gift, the Chiefs have their own worries to contend with. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Since losing Jamal Charles to torn ACL in week 2, the Chiefs have struggled mightily to come up with a workable running game. His absence is also notable in the fact the KC has only made 49 first downs the entire season.

While both teams are suffering, the Chiefs actually have something good to build off of. Last week they knocked off the less-than-spectacular Vikings 22-17 at Arrowhead. Kansas quarterback Matt Cassell showed real promise in that one, putting up 262 yards overall, including 161 in the second half alone.

What’s the good news for the Colts? Well, there’s really not a lot of it to be had. They have seen sparks of greatness flare up this season, especially last week when they played Tampa Bay. The 318 combined offensive yards were the most they’ve seen all season.

But their biggest edge against their first 0-5 start since the 1990’s will be the Chief’s dismal road record. Kansas City has yet to win on the road this year, and haven’t beaten the Colts on the road since Jimmy Carter was sitting in the White House.

If Painter can find his groove and build on the successes of last week, Indy has a good shot at finally finding a Manning-less win. But the sheer number of injuries plaguing this organization makes that a pretty big question mark.

The Chiefs definitely have the momentum coming into this one and they may find an Indianapolis crowd that isn’t as enthusiastic as they normally are. Cassel is a veteran and if he digs deep, the Chiefs can further wreck the Colts’ already horrible year.

Matt’s Prediction: Kansas City 14-10
