Matchup | Preview

The Bengals looked good at the beginning of the season, but they have lost three straight games. Cincinnati has to get back on track at home, but they’ll face a very tough Broncos team.

Denver

Tim Tebow led the Denver Broncos to a playoff win last year, but when it was evident the team had a chance to get Peyton Manning in the offseason, John Elway took the team in a different direction. Manning is one of the best quarterbacks in this generation, and you can’t blame anyone for wanting Manning leading their team. Manning has been nothing short of brilliant coming back from a major injury. Manning has thrown 17 touchdown passes and just 4 interceptions.

He is completing 68.5 percent of his passes. Five guys have already caught at least 20 passes for Denver. Willis McGahee has had a much better year running the football, and you have to think that is because the opposition is being forced to play the pass more often.

The Broncos defense is great at getting after the opposing quarterback. Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil may be the best one-two pass rushing combination in the NFL. Miller has six sacks and Dumervil five so far this season. Wesley Woodyard leads the defense with 42 tackles, and he has become a team leader for the defense. Tracy Porter has teamed with Champ Bailey to create a strong secondary. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Cincinnati

There is no doubt the Bengals have some nice young talent, but they also have some holes. Andy Dalton was terrific in his rookie season, but he has turned it over far too many times this season. Dalton has already thrown 10 interceptions in just seven games. A.J. Green may only be in his second year in the NFL, but he is already one of the best receivers in the NFL. Green has caught 44 passes already this year, and he has seven touchdown receptions. BenJarvus Green-Ellis hasn’t been the answer for a Bengals running game that just can’t seem to get going. It might also be partially because the team is dinged up badly on the offensive line.

The Bengals defense was one of the best in the NFL through the first few games of the season last year, but they haven’t been very good this year. Injuries in the secondary have made a unit that the Bengals thought would be a strength a major question mark. The Bengals front line is pretty strong, but there aren’t enough play makers in the linebacking group. Overall, the Bengals are giving up 26.7 points per game this year.

The Bengals may be a little better coming out of a bye week, but this team doesn’t seem to have the weapons to keep up with the Broncos high-powered offense.
