The Redskins are clearly a better team with their star rookie at quarterback, but they need to get back on the winning track to not lose touch in the NFC East. Pittsburgh has some work to do to catch the Ravens in the AFC North, but there is plenty of time left in the season.

Washington:

The Redskins made a big move to draft Robert Griffin III in the offseason. The team gave up a lot, but they thought it was worth it to get a franchise quarterback. So far this year, the move by the Redskins looks like a brilliant one.

RG3 has excelled in his first seven games as a professional. Griffin is completing 70 percent of his passes on the year. He also is averaging 7.6 yards per carry. There aren’t many play makers in the league like Griffin, and if he stays healthy he will be extremely special. Mike Shanahan’s team has gotten it going on the ground this year. The Redskins are averaging 179 per game on the ground, which is the best mark in the league.

Washington’s defense has been good against the run this year, but they are terrible against the pass. Opponents are piling up 328 yards per game through the air against the Redskins. The team is particularly weak at the safety position. The Redskins defense has given up at least 22 points in eight straight games dating back to last season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Pittsburgh:

The Steelers were trailing 14-3 early last week against the Bengals, but they dominated the rest of the game and came away with a 24-17 win. The Steelers defense stepped up in a big way last week. Andy Dalton and the talented Bengals offense could only muster 185 yards of total offense against this unit. Troy Polamalu missed that game, but the rest of the team stepped up. Polamalu will miss this game as well. The Steelers still have the best group of linebackers in the NFL. Pittsburgh is second in the NFL in total defense so far this season.

Ben Roethlisberger is putting together another terrific season. Big Ben has 11 touchdown passes and just three interceptions on the year. The most exciting part of last week’s win at Cincinnati for Steelers fans had to be how the Pittsburgh running game got going. Johnathan Dwyer ran for 122 yards in that game. Rashard Mendenhall is healing, and he is listed as questionable for this game. Antonio Brown has been the team’s most reliable receiver this year. Heath Miller is one of the best tight ends in the league, and Roethlisberger looks to him in key situations quite a bit.

The Steelers don’t always run it well, but they can’t air it out with the best of them. Washington’s pass defense has been terrible this year. Look for Pittsburgh to take care of business in this one.
