Even with question marks along the defensive front seven, New York is still four-point favorites over their divisional rival Washington Redskins and their new head coach Jim Zorn. Zorn has no previous NFL head coaching experience and he is making a huge jump after being the Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach the last seven years.

Fast forwarding to Sunday, New England is a 16 ½-point home favorite over lowly Kansas City. The Patriots have been awful this preseason playing without quarterback Tom Brady. Brady is expected to play despite his mysterious foot injury, but the Pats could still be having a Super Bowl hangover and the young Chiefs could be a live dog at such a high spread.

Another superstar quarterback in the headlines is Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning. Like Brady, Manning also missed the entire preseason, but his knee injury shouldn’t prevent him from playing Sunday night against the Chicago Bears. The Colts have been installed as 9 ½-point home favorites.

Sunday also marks the regular season debut of Jets’ quarterback Brett Favre. The Jets are at the Miami Dolphins and open as three-point chalk. Favre looked better than expected in the preseason, but we will see how he fares with defenses game-planning for him. Remember, the former Green Bay signal caller is still in the infancy stages of learning the Jets’ offense.

Perhaps the best game on Sunday is the Dallas Cowboys giving 5 ½-points at the Cleveland Browns. The ‘Boys’ are considered the best team in the NFC, but Cleveland is also expected to make the playoffs in the AFC. Browns quarterback Derek Anderson did suffer a concussion recently, but he is back at practice and on track to play in this game.

Monday night has a doubleheader of Minnesota (+3) at Green Bay and Denver (-3) at Oakland. The first game is the one everyone wants to see as Aaron Rodgers gets to prove he can replace Favre when it really counts. The Vikings have their own quarterback issue with Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson is hoping to play despite spraining his knee in the preseason.

Other Week 1 spreads at Sportsbook.com have Cincinnati (-1.5) at Baltimore, Houston (+6.5) at Pittsburgh, Jacksonville (-3) at Tennessee, Detroit (-3) at Atlanta, Seattle (Even) at Buffalo, Tampa Bay (+3.5) at New Orleans, St. Louis (+7.5) at Philadelphia, Carolina (+9) at San Diego and Arizona (-2.5) at San Francisco.
