Sunday Night Football – Green Bay vs Houston Betting

Headline: Put Up or Shut Up Time for the Packers – Green Bay versus Houston in Week 6

Who thought that the Green Bay Packers would have four losses after six weeks of the 2012 season? Liar! This absurd suggestion could become a reality when the struggling Packers visit the top team in the NFL Houston on Sunday night. Both teams sustained significant injuries in Week 5 – it will be interesting to see just how they adjust this week.

The Green Bay Packers need a win – obviously! They are arguably the biggest disappointment in the NFL so far this season and they have fallen behind the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings in their own division. Now they are tasked with taking on the most complete football team in the land without Cedric Benson who was lost for 8 weeks with a foot injury.

Green Bay has been just OK on both sides of the ball this season – surprising. The offense obviously misses their possession guy Greg Jennings who has been inactive or banged up all season long.

The Packers own the 15th ranked passing game with 242 yards per game (far from expectations) and the 20th ranked running game with just over 95 yards per game. When successful Green Bay has been all about offense – average is not good enough for this squad.

Defensively Green Bay has been average as well – 16th against the pass and 17th against the run. Outside of a spectacular effort against Chicago this unit has been disappointing. On Sunday they face a very well balanced offense the top running back in the game Arian Foster and arguably the top receiver in the game Andre Johnson.

The Houston Texans got it done on Monday night in a hard fought win at the Jets. They did lose their top tackler Brian Cushing in the game which could give the Packers a glimmer of hope this weekend – too bad JJ Watt will still suit up! Houston has a very good offense and a terrific defense – they are a handful for any team that they face.

Houston enters Week 6 with the league’s 20th ranked passing game with 229 yards per game. Matt Schaub has been very good this season, Andre Johnson is healthy and effective again and the fringe receivers are certainly doing their jobs as well. Arian Foster and the running game are 6th ranked in the NFL averaging 143 yards per game so far. Green Bay has to slow Foster if they hope to have any chance in this game – good luck with that! The Texans defense has been as advertised – simply one of the best in the NFL. We all saw what a good defense can do to the Packers offense (remember the Seattle debacle – I’m sure you do!). The Texans are 4th against the pass allowing just 189.60 yards per game and 9th versus the run surrendering 86 yards per game.

Betting Prediction: A few trends to consider:
• Green Bay is 20-5 SU in its last 25 games
• Green Bay is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 6 of Green Bay’s last 8 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 14 of Green Bay’s last 21 games on the road
• Houston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
• Houston is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games at home
• The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Houston’s last 11 games at home

The Houston Texans are undefeated for a reason! With the Packers coming to town without Jeremichael Finley and Cedric Benson it is difficult to see them penetrating this defense that has made everybody look bad this season. To beat Houston, a team has to be on top of their game and Green Bay is clearly not on top of their game at the moment. Houston will be looking to legitimize their place at the top of the NFL standings with a win over one of the NFL elite – they get it done on Sunday and send the Pack home 2-4!

Pick: Houston Texans -3 1/2
