Two teams coming off stinging losses meet in Carolina on Sunday when the surprising 1-3 Panthers host the equally surprising Seahawks. It is your classic top tier offense vs. top tier defense clash. But only one of these units is playing their best ball going into Sunday’s contest.

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t play badly in their 19-13 loss to St. Louis last week. They fell victim to a 60 yard field goal, a 58 yard field goal and a touchdown off a faked field goal. But they didn’t play well either specifically the offense. Russell Wilson finally looked like a rookie in passing for 160 yards, zero touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Marshawn Lynch was typically stellar last week – the Hawks absolutely need him to have a chance in this game.

Seattle isn’t a great offense – plain and simple. They are dead last in passing and they own the sixth best rushing offense. They score only an average of 17.5 points per game – good for 28th in the NFL. It is obvious what the Hawks will need to do – keep feeding Marshawn Lynch!

The Seattle defense has been stellar this season – 9th against the pass and a superb 2nd against the run. They allow 14.5 points per game – good for 2nd in the league. Keep in mind that this defense has played Dallas and Green Bay already and these numbers are even more impressive. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Carolina Panthers don’t look like the same team that we saw last year. The running game has been OK and the passing game has been OK but the team is 25th in scoring in the NFL. Something just isn’t clicking in Carolina.

Carolina’s defense has been abysmal this year – otherwise we may be talking about Carolina being 3-1. They are 22nd versus the pass and 25th against the run – not good when Marshawn Lynch is coming to town! They give up over 27 points per game and their generosity is costing them.

Betting Prediction:

  •  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Seattle’s last 6 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Seattle’s last 7 games on the road
  •  Seattle is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games
  •  Seattle is 7-17-1 ATS in its last 25 games on the road
  •  The total has gone OVER in 8 of Carolina’s last 11 games
  •  Carolina is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games at home
  •  Carolina is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games at home
  •  Carolina is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games

This game has Marshawn Lynch written all over it. Seattle should be able to dumb this game down a bit and control the clock. Combine the facts that Carolina isn’t very good at home, that they aren’t playing very well anywhere and that their goal will be to stop one of the premier rushers in the game with a bad defense – it all adds up to another disappointment for the Carolina Panthers.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks +3

NFL OPENING NIGHT HOT SIDE! (WON AGAIN LY!)

As you probably already know, Ben Burns has historically fared EXTREMELY WELL on Opening Night of the NFL season. He did it AGAIN in 2018, going a PERFECT 2-0 on Opening Night, nailing both the Eagles, minus the points, and the 'Under.' This year, its the Bears hosting the Packers, a pair of teams that Burns knows like the back of his hand. You in?
