Seattle hopes to get it done with perhaps the most balanced lineups left in the playoffs while the Falcons hope that their high flying offense will do enough damage for the win.

The Seattle Seahawks looked tremendous on the road last week in taking down the upstart Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. The Hawks fell behind early, weathered the storm and completely shut down the Redskins offense after the first quarter.

Washington’s Griffin-led drives after its first two scores went 8, 3, 23, 4, 17 and minus-12 yards.

In 41 minutes after his team went up 14-0, Griffin generated four first downs.

Seattle’s offense continues to grow. Last week Marshawn Lynch ran for 131 yards on just 19 carries, and Wilson rushed for 67 yards and also passed for another 187 yards. It all led to a nice 24-14 win for the wild card road team. The Hawks enter Sunday’s game with the league’s 27th ranked passing attack and third best rushing attack and only getting better.

Seattle is well balanced offensively, they are confident and have emerged as the team that absolutely nobody wants to face.

Defensively, Seattle has been strong all season long and last week’s performance only enhanced their standing as one of the league’s elite. Seattle allowed the least points per game in the NFL this season (15.31) they were 10th against the run and 6th against the pass – something that will come in handy against an Atlanta team overflowing with talent in their passing game.

The Atlanta Falcons had the week off to heal, prepare and scheme against their Divisional Round foe. Atlanta got it done this year with a good offense and an average defense. It is clear that Matt Ryan and company will have to be the difference on Sunday – the Hawks have a ton of momentum offensively and should be able to score against Atlanta’s suspect “D”.

The Falcons were the 7th best scoring team in the NFL this season (26.19 points per game). The owned the 6th best passing offense but had the 29th ranked rushing game in the NFL. Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez have been a handful for all of their opposition this season but Seattle’s secondary should be a good test for the elite pass catchers of the Falcons. Not much is expected from Jaquizz Rodgers and Michael Turner – it will likely be up to Ryan to guide his team to victory.

Atlanta’s defense has been just OK this season. Somehow they finished fifth in the NFL in points against (19.69) but they were 21st against the run and 23rd versus the pass. The Falcons appear to have the quintessential “bend, not break” defense but will have to step it up against a hot Seattle offense Sunday.

Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

•Seattle is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
•The total has gone OVER in 5 of Seattle’s last 6 games when playing Atlanta
•The total has gone OVER in 4 of Seattle’s last 5 games on the road
•The total has gone OVER in 5 of Seattle’s last 7 games
•The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Atlanta’s last 5 games at home
•Atlanta is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games at home
•The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Atlanta’s last 7 games
•The total has gone OVER in 5 of Atlanta’s last 6 games when playing Seattle

The Falcons are the #1 seed in the NFC for a reason but they are not without their deficiencies.

Their defense has been their Achilles heel. Against a very balanced, uber-confident Seattle crew that now knows they can win on the road, it is difficult to imagine them stopping the Seahawks all together – Seattle is just too hard to game plan against at the moment. On the flip side, Atlanta’s strength plays right into the hands of Seattle’s strength – the pass defense.

Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner and company are big, they are physical and they are a nightmare to play against. It all adds up to Seattle victory Sunday as momentum trumps rest.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks +1
