The Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals enter the season having gone through interesting quarterback battles during training camp – now we get to see if the decisions made by the respective coaching staffs will pay off.
The Seattle Seahawks enter Week 1 with a sense of optimism – the team went 4-0 during the preseason and is relatively healthy although there are whispers out of the Pacific Northwest that Marshawn Lynch has been experiencing back spasms which could threaten his availability.
Seattle will go with the mobile Russell Wilson at QB over newly acquired Matt Flynn.
He actually has a decent stable of receivers to throw to – Braylon Edwards and Sidney Rice are nice security blankets for the rookie QB.
Make no mistake about it – Seattle will win and lose with a defense that emerged as a top unit last year.
This team is stacked on the defensive side of the ball and should once again provide a huge challenge for opposing offenses this year starting Week 1 with an Arizona team that doesn’t look all that scary on paper.
The Arizona Cardinals like the Seahawks will have a surprise starter at QB in Week 1. John Skelton beat out high priced free agent signing Kevin Kolb during the preseason and takes over a troubled offense. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
John Skelton scares nobody except for Larry Fitzgerald who suddenly must depend on a fourth tier NFL QB to deliver him the ball.
Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams at RB don’t scare too many either.
Like the offense, the Cardinals defense has no stand-outs, no difference makers to throw the opposition off. The Arizona defense was slightly below average last year and there is no reason to think any differently about this year’s squad.
Dave’s Free Won’t Cost You Anything Seahawks Betting Prediction
The Arizona Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six games – surprising! They are also money at home – 5-0 in their last five games in the desert.
Seattle is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six road games, but is just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games in Arizona.
I just can’t see the Cardinals winning this game – too much controversy and not enough talent on both sides of the ball.
The Seattle offense should be able to do enough against Arizona’s weakish defense and the Hawks offense should be able to limit the Cards offensive output.
All Seattle has to do is double team Larry Fitzgerald and the rest should take care of itself although that has always proven tougher than it sounds.
