Season Win Totals NFL Predictions – Oakland Raiders 2014 Odds

Raiders Over / Under Season Wins

The Raiders won only 4 games last season but when you look at the personnel they were putting on the field even that seems like more than they should have.

Over Under Lines

Over 4.5 (-130)
Under 4.5 (-110)

Last season they could do only one thing well, rush the ball but that was in part because quarterback Terrelle Pryor couldn’t really throw it.

This year they have more competent personnel at the most important position on the field and the hope is that they start a slow build back to respectability. This team has a lot of holes to fill.

Oakland brought in Matt Schaub to play quarterback this year and hopefully he can be a quality player until second round pick Derek Carr is ready to take over.

As important as he will be so will be the three new defensive linemen, led by Giants All-Pro Justin Tuck in reshaping the defense. If they can be better on that side of the ball Schaub should enjoy handing the ball off to Darren McFadden and the newly acquire Maurice Jones-Drew.

Both have something to prove but if the Raiders get something going they could each get 1000 yards.

Projected win total:  6

I like a lot of the moves the Raiders made with the exception of bringing in Schaub…I just don’t see the point because this team is not likely to challenge for a playoff spot anyway.

Either way they should be a lot better, especially on defense especially if top pick Khalil Mack lives up to his potential right away.

Charles Woodson is back again this season and he should be a calming influence at the back end which they desperately need.

Key to Season:

Dominating in the running game. The Raiders put up a ton of yards last year but Pryor helped a lot.

They return all 5 of their starting linemen from a year ago and their running back duo are primed to deliver good season if they can do the job up front. This team, even with improved QB play needs to shorten the game.

Then their experienced defense can make the stops that lead to victories.

As you can see from my projected win total there is some value in the number even if the payoff has been sucked out a little bit. If you are going to take it just hope that they reach the total before the end of season trip to Denver.

They draw the NFC West this season and that is a hard slate to try and improve against. Next year they might even be in contention for a playoff spot.

First they have to be respectable.
