Season Win Totals NFL Predictions – Dallas Cowboys 2014 Lines

Cowboys Season Win Totals

The Dallas Cowboys have been underachieving for years. The last three years the Cowboys have gone 8-8, so it’s easy to see why the sportsbooks have set the O/U win total line at eight games this season.

I think it’s safe to say that the Cowboys are going to have a rough season. Tony Romo had a solid season last year, but coming off back surgery at 34 years of age is going to be tough for the veteran QB.

DeMarco Murray set a career high with 14 starts and he gained 1124 yards on a 5.2 YPC average. That’ll be hard to duplicate, as Murray is injury prone, but if he can stay healthy the offense will be real good.

Losing Miles Austin at WR is most likely good news. Terrance Williams will line up next to Dez Bryant and they should be a great 1-2 punch. Jason Witten is also back although likely won’t be too productive.

Dallas was one of the highest team scoring teams last season (27.4 PPG – 5th). The problem was that the defense was terrible and the offense had injuries at opportune times, such as Romo in week 17.

The defense allowed 6645 total yards last season, which was the 3rd worst total in NFL history. When you think about that it’s incredible that Dallas was able to finish with a .500 record in 2013.

My prediction is that the defense will be even weaker this season. DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher are both gone. Sean Lee is also out for the season after recently tearing his ACL, which is devastating.

Even the players that Dallas signed this off-season are unlikely to be productive. They signed players that have either been busts (Rolando McClain) or players that have been struggling (Henry Melton).

It’s difficult to gauge how poor the Cowboys defense will be, but it’s safe to say that they’re going to be one of the worst defensive units in the NFL again. That alone will put tons of pressure on Romo.

2014 Dallas Cowboys Season Win Betting Prediction

Bet on Under 8 Games (-115)

I’m definitely on the under for the Cowboys and I don’t have them making the playoffs. In fact, I have the Cowboys finishing as one of the worst teams in the league despite the fact their schedule isn’t too hard.

Early in the season they play the Titans, Rams and Texans, which are all winnable games. However, I think they’ll lose on the road to St. Louis. After their bye week things get tough and they may lose out.

Even if the Cowboys can remain healthy the defense is too poor to win eight games. I’ll definitely look to target the Dallas game totals this year, but I’m sure they’ll be amongst the highest every week.

Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams should all put up big fantasy numbers trying to keep their team in games, but I don’t expect Dallas to win many games. I think under eight is a gift.
