The San Francisco 49ers will attempt to finally put an end to the NFC West race when they head to Seattle Sunday to take on the only team that can catch them in the division standings. The 49ers have looked tremendous since Colin Kaepernick took over the reins while the Hawks have established themselves as a true contender in the NFC – as complete a team as there is in NFL.

The San Francisco 49ers came up with arguably their most impressive win in Week 15 against a New England team that doesn’t lose in December and is absolutely money on home field. The defense has been strong all season long but it was an incredible offensive performance that got them to 10 wins. The 49ers are a scary team right now – they can beat you many different ways.
The 49ers enter Sunday’s clash with the league’s 26th ranked passing game – a tad misleading considering how Colin Kaepernick has played since taking over from Alex Smith. Kaepernick threw four touchdowns against the Pats in Week 15 and is gaining immense confidence each and every week. He looks like a legitimate super star and somehow he has morphed the 49ers offense into a balanced multi-tooled unit.
Kaepernick has also helped the rushing game maintain their top 2 ranking in the NFL. He and Frank Gore have been monsters in propelling the team to an average of 162.86 yards on the ground. San Francisco will run the ball well as usual but the added threat of a passing game makes them very, very dangerous.

Defensively San Francisco has been masterful all season long. They may have given up some yards and points to New England but they still have to be considered among the top 2 or 3 best in the NFL. They are 5th against the pass and 3rd against the run. The 49ers allow just 15.57 points per game – best in the league.
The Seahawks have absolutely been on fire lately – they have outscored their opponents 117-17 in the last nine quarters combined – incredible. The Hawks are peaking at precisely the right time and in turn have made it a race for the NFC West title. Hosting the 49ers at home where the Seahawks are undefeated this season with a chance to win the NFC West in certainly an unexpected surprise for Pete Carroll and the boys but a welcome one at that! Seattle’s passing game is still 27th in the NFL but they have improved each and every week. Russell Wilson has a passer rating over 100 and had three rushing touchdowns against Buffalo – he has been one of the great surprises of this season. He has Marshawn Lynch and the league’s third best running game to back him up as well, making the Seahawks balanced and dangerous just like the 49ers. Seattle is clicking on all cylinders offensively as of late and playing at home, it is difficult to imagine them not bringing their best in front of their rabid home town fans!
Seattle’s defense has been terrific lately as well – a perfect complement to an offense that has simply been running teams over. The Hawks are second in the NFL to San Francisco in points against (15.64 per game), they are 3rd against the pass (allowing 197.64 yards per game) and they are 10th versus the run (allowing 106.29 yards per game). The Seattle defense will have their hands full Sunday night but this unit has responded with each and every challenge thus far.

It is absolutely crazy to bet against the Seattle Seahawks at home – they have defeated the likes of Dallas, Green Bay and New England at CenturyLink Field. But a little birdie tells me that this is the week the Hawks undefeated streak at home comes to an end. Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers offense creates too many matchup nightmares and the 49ers defense is the best that the Hawks have faced in a long while. I like the Seahawks but I love the 49ers this week. 49ers wrap up the NFC West this weekend.
