San Francisco 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings Free Gambling Prediction & Week 3 Preview

49ers vs Vikings NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

San Francisco is off to a terrific start and has to be at the top of most people’s current power ratings.  They opened at Green Bay with a fantastic all around performance, stunning the Packers on both offense and defense, winning pulling away.

San Francisco

Then they returned home to beat another playoff team from last year – Detroit.

Again showing a combination of ferocious defense and efficient offence.

The first we knew they had the latter seemingly has improved from last season.

Through two games the 49ers are gashing people on the ground – 3rd in the league.  Playing with the lead in both games suits their game plans just fine with Alex Smith able to take what the defense gives and not force the issue.

That is because the defense has picked up right where it left off last season, limiting two of the most explosive offense in the league.

Christian Ponder can be expected to be greeted by defensive end Aldon Smith who has a couple of sack already.

This is the second week in a row San Fran is a 7 point favourite.  Last week I thought it was a little generous and they covered.  On the road against Minnesota it seems like great value.  The 49ers are touring the NFC North and have already collected a couple of scalps – ATS and SU.

You can expect another one on Sunday.

Minnesota

The Vikings have managed a 1-1 record after two games, the same as their competitors in the NFC North.  I don’t expect that to last much longer as Minnesota showed little in beating a weak Jaguars team in week 1 and losing to an inexperienced Colts team in week 2. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The one good thing that did happen was the return from injury of Adrian Peterson.  Hard to say he is all the way back but definitely a pleasant early surprise given the severity of the injury at the end of last year..

Its just a couple of games but it looks like Christian Ponder really worked on his game this offseason.  Last year I saw nothing that led me to believe in his potential but right now he has a rating of 110 with a ridiculous 75% completion rate.  His go to guy has been Percy Harvin but they have yet to connect on anything big.

For such a speed guy he has been pretty easy to bottle up throughout his career.

Interesting.

I am sure San Francisco is a popular sleeper pick this week and seems like a great value with the 7 point margin.

It will definitely fall on Ponder to give his team a real chance to win as you can be sure the 49ers will pay close attention to Peterson (the could easily remove him from being a facto).

I am doubtful Ponder can do what Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford couldn’t.

Spread Pick: San Francisco -7
