The oddsmakers’ certainly aren’t giving San Diego a whole lotta love ahead of this game and rightfully so!

The San Diego Chargers continue to be one of the more Jekyll and Hyde teams in the NFL – so good one week and so bad the next. Last week was another of the bad performances – a huge loss at Tampa Bay to drop them one game under .500.

Statistically speaking San Diego is where they should be – they are an average team with average numbers and average record.

As it stands the Chargers have the 16th ranked passing offense and the 18th ranked rushing game in the NFL – far from where we thought this team would be at this point of the season. Phillip Rivers has completed 68 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while being sacked 22 times.

Ryan Mathews is averaging 4.2 yards per carry and he also has 26 catches out of the backfield and Jackie Battle averages 4.8 yards per carry. Malcolm Floyd has 39 catches and three touchdowns, Ronnie Brown has 35 catches, and Antonio Gates has 28 catches and four touchdowns.

Turnovers and lack of utilization of their best weapons has cost this team – START USING ANTONIO GATES AFTER THE 1ST QUARTER!!!

Defensively the Chargers have been surprisingly good – #2 versus the run and 17th against the pass. If nothing else they should provide a good test to Peyton Manning and the boys. They will ultimately be the reason that this game could be close.

The Denver Broncos have been ascending to the top of almost everyone’s Power Rankings and they have looked better each and every week. Peyton Manning is back to his old form – bad news for the AFC West and the rest of the league for that matter. The Broncos are the 3rd best passing team in the NFL – unbelievable considering where they ranked last year and they are 22nd in rushing.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Peyton Manning has completed 69.7 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions while being sacked 11 times. Willis McGahee is averaging 4.2 yards per carry with four touchdowns while catching 25 passes out of the backfield and Ronnie Hillman averages 3.9 yards per carry.

Demaryius Thomas has 54 receptions and four touchdowns, Eric Decker has 48 catches and seven touchdowns, and Jacob Tamme has 30 catches and a touchdown.

Denver’s defense was strong last year and continues to be so this year – the difference is that they have less to worry about this season! They are 11th against the pass and 10th versus the run and they are certainly a handful for their opposition.

Betting Prediction:

• San Diego is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Denver
• The total has gone OVER in 5 of San Diego’s last 6 games
• The total has gone OVER in 11 of San Diego’s last 15 games on the road
• San Diego is 9-4 SU in its last 13 games when playing Denver
• Denver is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver’s last 5 games
• Denver is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home
• Denver is 18-7 SU in its last 25 games when playing at home against San Diego

Divisional games are typically tight affairs – 7 1/2 points is a rather lofty Spread. But it is with good reason in this case – the Chargers are a sinking ship.

Denver is Hot and only getting better. Peyton Manning appears to be able to do whatever he wants on the field. This game has blowout written all over it – you can count on a few mistakes from San Diego and you can guarantee that Norv Turner will do something to ensure his team’s futility.

Denver rolls and sends San Diego packing humiliated and with even more questions than they had going in!

Pick: Denver Broncos -7 1/2
