Awards: NFL MVP & Rookie Odds & Handicapping

The fields for the MVP and rookie of the year awards are starting to get very crowded. Why? Because the stand-outs aren’t on what many would consider unbelievable teams…

Week 15 – NFL MVP and Rookie of the Year Future Book Wagering Gets Hotter

The race for NFL MVP continues to tighten as some players that were low on the chart just a week ago have started to rise sharply. Sports betting fans have to like how the players that deserve MVP mentioning have solidified their position in just the past two weeks.

Unfortunately for BetUS Sportsbook betting fans when it comes to the Rookie of the Year there is only one player to consider. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flaaco makes the list as well, but he probably has no chance of taking home the award.

We will start with the Rookie of the Year award and then get into the thick of the MVP race!

NFL Rookie of the Year Award Best Online Betting Interests

1. Matt Ryan, quarterback Atlanta Falcons – – fair online wagering odds 1 to 10 – – I hate to say this but Ryan would have to break a leg and arm and Joe Flaaco would have to throw for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the Baltimore Ravens final three games for Ryan not to win this award. He’s had the most impressive season of a rookie quarterback since Dan Marino in 1982. That makes him a lock in my mind to win the award. 1 to 10 are extremely low online betting odds but let’s be honest – – what sportswriter in their right mind is going to cast their vote for anybody but Ryan? I know I couldn’t. Even in defeat he was spectacular this past weekend, throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown. Ryan has a quarterback rating of 92 for the season. He’s a rookie, people. What was the name of the quarterback for Atlanta before Ryan? Verona? Victer, Vike…oh, I know it begins with a “v”. Whatever. The Falcons are Ryan’s team.

2. Joe Flaaco, quarterback Baltimore Ravens – – fair online wagering odds + 3000 – – He’s the only rookie worth mentioning for the award because Ryan is playing so well. Yes, Chris Johnson is doing some terrific things for the Tennessee Titans, but Johnson works with LenDale White in that backfield. Flaaco took over a team with a new coach, had to learn a pro style offense, and comes from a small school, Delaware. So what has Flaaco done this season? He’s led the Ravens to a 9 and 4 record, one of the best in the AFC, and he’s garnered an 81.3 quarterback rating. No, he probably has no chance at winning the Rookie of the Year award, but he deserves some mentioning, right?

NFL MVP Award Best Online Betting Interests

1. Adrian Peterson, running back Minnesota Vikings – – fair online wagering odds + 350 – – I’m so tempted to make Kerry Collins number one, but I really can’t. If Peterson racks up a touchdown in each of the last three games and rushes for over 100 yards, he will have 12 touchdowns and over 1,700 yards on the ground this season. He will easily have led the NFL in rushing during the regular season, the Vikings will have won the NFC North, and every single sportswriter with a vote will have to look at A.P. for the MVP Award.

2. Kerry Collins, quarterback Tennessee Titans – – fair online wagering odds + 650 – – It’s time to give Collins his due. Sorry, folks, but the Titans weren’t even mentioned as one of the better teams in the AFC South much less the best team in the AFC Conference. It all has to do with Collins who just doesn’t make a mistake under center and leads this team the way a veteran should. He’s a good online wager at odds of 6 to 1 higher. There will be some votes out there for him and the Titans are looking like the best team in the NFL right now. He’s got a shot at the MVP.

3. Ben Rothelisberger, quarterback Pittsburgh Steelers – – fair online wagering odds + 850 – – He’s a former Super Bowl winner, verifiable superstar and veteran of the big stage who has the knack of willing his team to victory. He did it again this past Sunday when the Steelers were behind ten points going into the fourth quarter against the Dallas Cowboys. The difference between Rothelisberger and Romo? Simple. Romo will throw the interception, Big Ben won’t. He’s my personal pick but make sure you get good online odds before jumping on board.

4. Kurt Warner, quarterback Arizona Cardinals – – fair online wagering odds + 1200 – – He has 80 less yards than Drew Brees but Warner’s team is in the playoffs while Brees and the Saints are struggling to make it. That gives Warner the edge. He’s a former MVP and nobody dislikes Kurt Warner. The problem is that a lot of sportswriters still aren’t taking the Cardinals seriously because they play in the softest division in football and Warner does have Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald catching his passes. He’s got an outside shot to win this, but I wouldn’t put too much money on him.

5. Drew Brees, quarterback New Orleans Saints – – fair online wagering odds + 1500 – – If Brees and the Saints make the playoffs, then he might be the second choice on the board after A.P. If the Saints don’t, and they probably won’t, then Brees might win something but it won’t be MVP. He leads the NFL in passing yards at 4,100 and he has a legitimate chance of breaking Dan Marino’s single season record, but the Saints can’t play defense and they’re three games behind the leader in the NFC South. That compromises his chances.

6. Eli Manning, quarterback New York Giants – – fair online wagering odds + 2500 – – Eli is the leader of the Giants, okay? He always has been. He’s had a terrific season and the Giants are still the best team in football even though they just lost this past Sunday to the Philadelphia Eagles. Eli is the man, okay? That’s all there is to it. His chances of winning the MVP award isn’t very good, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
