NFL-X Football – NFL Week Three Pre-Season Matchups

As we head into the third full week of the 2010 NFL preseason gambling there are some interesting position battles heating up on all 32 NFL teams.

NFL betting – Preseason Week 3 Preview

Week 3 is usually my favorite preseason week. Teams need to give their starters increased reps – sometimes a much as a half – and often rest everyone in their final preseason games the following week. Let’s see what’s on the schedule for Friday and Saturday this week.

Washington Redskins @ New York Jets

Friday, August 27, 7:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Jets -4.5

The belief among bettors is that there’s nice value on the Jets at -4.5 Friday night since Donovan McNabb (ankle) won’t play at all whereas the Jets will give their starters a decent number of reps.

Mark Sanchez is still a work in progress so the Jets will likely give him more than a few series to find his rhythm.

Washington’s passing game could be out of whack without its starting pivot and its stable of veteran runners, including Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker, looked positively washed up last week versus Baltimore. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Philadelphia Eagles @ Kansas City Chiefs

Friday, August 27, 8:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Eagles -1.5

The Eagles are road favorites against the Chiefs because they’re still experimenting with their playbook and will use a long list of weapons on Friday.

They’re toying with Michael Vick in the Wildcat formation and giving new starting quarterback Kevin Kolb a few extra reps to get him ready for the regular season.

The Chiefs will likely start Thomas Jones again and give Jamaal Charles some carries later in the contest. Rookies Eric Berry and Dexter McCluster will see the field but Kansas City is reportedly trying not to tire out the scatback/receiver McCluster.

Dallas Cowboys @ Houston Texans

Saturday, August 28, 8:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Texans -3

Powerhouse teams like the Dallas Cowboys often find themselves preseason underdogs since they have fewer battles at the skill positions and benefit more simply by resting their starters.

The Texans need to prep their linebacker corps for four games without suspended Brian Cushing and they’ll experiment more with Arian Foster and Steve Slaton (who is now handling some return duties) in the backfield.

Though they’ll handle Matt Schaub with kid gloves, it’ll be interesting to see what the Texans do with their pass catchers on Saturday. Can the more dynamic Jacoby Jones beat out the reliable Kevin Walter for the No. 2 receiving job?

Also, don’t be surprised if Houston dusts off tight end Owen Daniels, who has been cleared for contact after an MRI showed this week that his surgically repaired ACL is 100 per cent healed.
