The NFL Preseason winds down this week as coaches get one last look at their teams before the games start to take on more weighty implications.

In this week’s match up between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, former Jets QB Mark Sanchez will likely see some playing time against his old teammates, without enduring what would’ve been a verbal assault had this game been scheduled to be played in MetLife Stadium.

Former Eagles’ QB Michael Vick may not have it so easy, as the Philly faithful are not the most cordial on the best days and he will be making his first appearance at the Linc since his off-season departure.

Eagles

Speaking of Sanchez (who I’m hoping will embrace the nickname Pedro in his role as Napolean Dynamite doppelganger and Eagles starting QB Nick Foles’ backup), he was pretty solid last week against the Steelers, completing seven of nine passes for 85 yards and looked comfortable in Chip Kelly’s uptempo offense.

The Eagles have been averaging about 31 points scored per game this preseason and if at all possible, look like they could be even faster than last year.

Nick Foles took most of the work last week in a 31-21 victory over the Steelers, a score line that wasn’t very indicative of the game itself. Foles and the Eagles were all over a Steelers defense that coughed up 482 total yards, 182 of which came on the ground attack.

Eagles’ star running back Lesean McCoy left the game early after hurting his thumb, but not before grabbing 50 total yards of offense including a 22 yard TD grab from Foles.

McCoy is questionable for this week, but his platoon mates Darren Sproles and Matthew Tucker looked good last week, accounting for 79 yards and three TDs on the ground.

Jets

The J-E-T-S have not been world beaters themselves on the offensive side of the football this preseason and are averaging around 21 points per game. The offense did just enough in week one in a 13-10 win over the Colts.

They rattled off 25 points against the Bengals in week 2 in a win, and threw 24 on the board in a loss to their state rivals the Giants.

Geno Smith has been officially named the Jets’ starter following a pretty productive outing against the Giants last week. Smith fired 14 pass attempts, completing 9 of them for 137 yards and a touchdown. Vick saw limited time last week, but went 4 for 5 with a TD.

Vick was also sacked and fumbled once, so he was pretty much Michael Vick.

With Smith locking down the starting QB role, their shouldn’t be much pressure on him to outperform either Vick or Matt Simms this week. Newly acquired running back Chris Johnson played the lead role in the Jets 146 rushing yards last week against the Giants.

CJ2K saw 9 touches (more than any other back) for 42 yards and also hauled in a pair of passes.

WEEK 4 NFL-X Eagles vs Jets Free Pick

Preseason football is all about offense and I expect this game to be no different with Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense coming out the superior.

Weapons, weapons and more weapons on the offense in this game. Jets acquisitions Eric Decker and Chris Johnson will factor largely into how well the Jets do this season and sophomore QB Geno Smith now has the reigns to make the most of what has been put at his disposal.

The Eagles are more potent and flat out blindingly fast on offense. Receiver Jeremy Maclin’s return has been fairly smooth after missing last season with a knee injury, and he looks to be quickly turning into Foles’ favourite target.

I think the Eagles just plain outscore the Jets in a track meet.

The Pick: Eagles -2.5 (-110)
