Green Bay Packers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Gambling Prediction & Week 3 Preview

Green Bay vs. Cincinnati NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

Both of these teams won last week avoiding those dreaded 0-2 starts that make playoff seasons difficult. Green Bay was looking unstoppable on offense against Washington last week while Cincinnati looked very solid against a Pittsburgh team that is in for a rough season.

When it comes down to it this is a more important game for Cincinnati than Green Bay. They are at home and it would be a real feather in their cap to beat a contender like the Packers because the jury is still out on just how good this team really is.

As for Green Bay I am curious to see how their defense holds up this week and if they will be bothered at all by a Bengals team that can really get after the passer.

Green Bay

Last week the Green Bay offense looked just awesome. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

QB Aaron Rodgers had a near perfect day with 4 TD passes and RB James Starks provided a legitimate threat in the running game too with 132 yards on the ground (on just 20 carries). Things will be much tougher, especially running, this weekend but Rodgers is looking like this season could be his best yet – and he has had some very good one.

On defense the Packers have had two very different performances: they were very good last week in shutting out the Redskins for the first half to help put the game out of reach but against San Francisco their pass defense was torched by Colin Kaepernick. The Bengals want to be very balanced and have a nice set of weapons so the Packers are more likely to find themselves in a shootout than in a defensive battle it would seem.

The Bengals probably should be 2-0 at this point as they kind of let an opportunity slip through their fingers down the stretch against Chicago in the opener. I was bullish on the Bengals before the season started and haven’t seen anything to discourage so I think they can beat Green Bay.

The keys will be using all of their weapons on offense as they are much more than bombs away to A.J. Green (though that isn’t a bad strategy) – it looks like rookie RB Gio Bernard may be especially valuable as they give him more of an opportunity. On defense they have to make things uncomfortable for Rodgers back there just. He is so good but you have to disrupt him somehow to have a chance. Even batting a few balls down can make a big difference. He isn’t perfect and I think sometimes some defense jump too quickly into contain mode.

Spread Pick: Cincinnati +2.5

Score Prediction: Cincinnati 31 – Green Bay 27
