St. Louis Rams vs. Atlanta Falcons Gambling Prediction & Week 2 Preview

St. Louis vs. Atlanta NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

Things didn’t go the way the Atlanta Falcons planned in their opener against New Orleans. They didn’t play that terribly poorly but the result was the same, they just have trouble beating the Saints in that building and it looks like having Sean Payton on the sidelines is going to make a difference for New Orleans.

This week they are home in their own dome to welcome the St. Louis Rams who were successful in their own division opener against Arizona. The Rams are expecting to continue to build on the improvement they had last season when their defense really came on.

Last week it was their new offensive weapons that led them to comeback victory though.

St. Louis

Every article about QB Sam Bradford since he came into the league mentions how he has never had any quality weapons to work with. Well the brass got some in the offseason and after just one week it looks like they may have found gold in TE Jarred Cook and rookie WR Tavon Austin.

Cook had 7 catches for 141 yards in the win last week while Austin caught another 6 balls.

It was just one game but the start was impressive for what might be an underrated team. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Their defense wasn’t all that impressive in letting Cardinals QB Carson Palmer have a solid day at the office however, it was a good sign that they were able to get him to the ground for 4 sacks and they will need to do the same to Matty Ice on Sunday.

Jeff Fisher definitely has the team poised to continue along their path of improvement is USC doesn’t snag him (rumor).

Atlanta

The Falcons certainly could have won at New Orleans last week.

Their own new addition, RB Steven Jackson, looks like he had a good game but if you look more closely you will see that he got 50 of his 77 yards on one play so the running attack the Falcons were looking for didn’t materialize against a New Orleans defense that is supposed to be pretty soft.

Atlanta is expected to be among contenders in the NFC so they absolutely need to get this victory at home. Otherwise an 0-2 start will create a lot of negative attention. One interesting note from last week is how the Saints did a good job taking TE Tony Gonzalez and WR Roddy White (who was dinged up) out of the action.

The Falcons did do a good job on Saints TE Jimmy Graham when they were on defense so they should be able to contain Cook this week to with fewer legit threats around him.

Spread Pick: St. Louis +6.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Atlanta 24 -21
