Oakland is in a completely different position as even though we are at the midway point it probably feels like the season has been over for a while due to the super hot starts by Denver and Kansas City.

Oakland

You could argue that with 3 wins already the season has already been a success as many had this Oakland team forecasted to be as bad as Jacksonville.

Oakland has one of the more effective rushing attacks in the league led by scrambling QB Terrelle Pryor but other than that there is not much to celebrate.

They should be easy to defend because Pryor looks just awful when he drops back to pass, not even averaging better than 200 yards through the air this season.

As a result the Raiders have trouble scoring which puts way too much pressure on a defense that is adequate at best. The formula for beating Oakland seems obvious but it also depends on their opponents executing.

That has been the achilles heel of New York all season long which is what makes this game kind of interesting with the Giants installed as significant favourites.

New York

Credit the Giants a little bit for getting off the mat as things looked pretty bleak for a while there. Before the bye week they had back to back wins against Minnesota and Philadelphia, hardly the leagues elite, but they were encouraging efforts especially defensively as they allowed only 7 points to each opponent.

This team is clearly not as good as was expected at the beginning of the season but now that they have cut down on their own mistakes they can have a reasonable chance of winning from here on out.

QB Eli Manning still does not have great numbers on the season but is no surprise that he has not thrown a pick in either of the last two games, the first two times all season (both wins of course).

Another mistake free game is really all it should take to beat a Raiders team that is not very good.

Hopefully New York has not lost its flow over last week’s bye week.

The number is a little higher than I would have made it but I think the Giants are up to the task.
