Cincinnati vs. Baltimore NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

Both these teams are hungry for a win in this one, but for different reasons. For Cincinnati they need to keep pace with the other division leaders in the AFC and this is still a young team that doesn’t want to let doubt settle in.

For Baltimore they are just looking for respectability, they are already unlikely to make the playoffs this season but need to win a few games to avoid getting lumped in with the struggling Steelers.

A visit from Cincinnati usually cures what ails the Ravens but maybe not this year as they are usually the favourite.

Cincinnati

Cincinnati is among the most talented teams in the NFL…but they don’t alway plays like it. I don’t know if it is coaching or experience but they seem to play down to their competition more than they should. This week they are looking to pounce on a Ravens team that is really struggling. They have not won at Baltimore since 2009 and if they don’t win this weekend the questions will start popping up.

The best way to beat the Ravens will be to go at them and not get too cute.

The Bengals have a nice one two punch in the running game with Benjarvis Green-Ellis and Gio Bernard and Baltimore struggles against the run. They should be able to be physical and get it done that way instead of having Andy Dalton toy around with all his new weapons in the passing game.

He is prone to make mistakes the more they put on him.

Defensively they may be missing their top players at every level but there is still enough there to stymie a Baltimore offense that has not been good all season long.

Baltimore

The Ravens have become a completely unreliable team this season. The reality is they won last year thanks to a very effective offense and a competent defense.

People ignore that because of the reputation the team has built over the years.

The defense was supposed to drop this season but it hasn’t – they are giving up only 10ppg. The offense on the other hand is a mess. They can’t run the ball and the passing game is not good enough to overcome that deficit.

They were hoping that WR Torrey Smith would step up and become the top dog at receiver and he has but the rest of the crew hasn’t.

Until such time as their offense becomes more reliable fading the Ravens seems like the way to go. Historically they have dominated the Bengals but the same could be said for the Brown too – they lost to Cleveland last week.
