WEEK 1 ATS PICKS RECORD: 6-0

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills

Sunday, September 18, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Bills -3.5

Call me crazy but Raiders/Bills has all the makings of a barn burner to me. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw four touchdown passes against Kansas City in the hostile environment of Arrowhead Stadium last week. He now has 3,208 passing yards and 27 touchdowns over his last 14 games dating back to 2010. Chan Gailey really can work magic with quarterbacks.

Now consider that the Raiders allowed 300-plus passing yards against Kyle Orton and a woeful Broncos offense last week. Their secondary just isn’t the same without Nnamdi Asomugha.

Oakland should score plenty as well. Darren McFadden looked dangerous as ever in the running game last week and the Bills’ run defense is awful. Even in a 41-7 win last week, they allowed 100-plus yards.

The OVER will make for a strong play this week. Eventually, though, I believe the Raiders will fall behind and be forced to pass. Once they have to rely on Jason Campbell, the Bills should pull away.

Pick: Bills -3.5

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans

Sunday, September 18, 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Ravens -5.5

The Ravens made Pittsburgh look like Tennessee last week. So who will they make Tennessee look like this week? An Arena League team?

Baltimore forced endless turnovers out of Ben Roethlisberger last week. If they can get to him, it’s scary to wonder what they’ll do to old, statuesque Matt Hasselbeck. The Titans should have a stretcher ready.

Pick: Ravens -5.5

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots

Sunday, September 18, 4:15 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Patriots -7

Tom Brady’s glorious 522-yard passing effort has inflated this spread. Don’t forget that (a) New England let Chad Henne top 400 passing yards and faces Philip Rivers this week and (b) the Chargers had the NFL’s top-ranked pass defense last year and held the Vikings to 28 passing yards last week. Twenty-eight! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

I think New England can pull off a win but this feels more like a last-second-field-goal type of game to me.

Pick: Chargers +7

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons

Sunday, September 18, 8:20 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Falcons -2.5

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense is more aggressive than Chicago’s – but could that play into Matt Ryan’s hands this week? He struggled against the Tampa 2 but he may punish the Eagles with some big plays if and when they rush him.

Michael Turner looked good for Atlanta in Week 1, rushing for 100 yards on 10 carries, and the Eagles struggled to stop the run against the Rams last week.

Philly should do its share of scoring at against Atlanta’s ho-hum defense on Sunday night, too. But the Atlanta faithful should be absolutely amped up with Michael Vick returning to town. His teammates may have trouble hearing him at the line of scrimmage.

This NFC battle should be close, possibly decided by less than a touchdown, but the Falcons should prevail. Facing an 0-2 start, they’ll treat the Sunday nighter like a playoff game. And, let’s not forget, Matty Ice is 20-2 all-time in the regular season at the Georgia Dome.

Pick: Falcons -2.5
