Cappers Picks Weekly Handicapping Preview – Week 15

Another 2-2-0 week – my second one in a row after a 9-2-1 run! The Panthers and the Broncos failed to cover the Spread this week bringing me down in the process. This week figures to be more profitable – there is some quality betting matchups that should pay us off!

Enjoy Cappers Picks Weekly Handicapping Preview – Week 15 and know that this week will certainly be a strong one!

WEEK 12 ATS PICKS RECORD: 2-2-0
SEASON ATS PICKS RECORD: 35-23-2

Washington at NY Giants

Sunday, December 18, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Giants -7

The New York Giants look to continue their playoff push on Sunday. The difference between this week and last – they are the hunted rather than the hunter. This week they take on a Washington Redskins team that played OK last week but have lost two straight games. The Giants should win this game but the question begs – is the Spread a little too rich?

Both the Skins and the Giants have had their issues covering the Spread as of late – Washington is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games overall while the Giants are 3-5-1 ATS in their last nine. New York has also had trouble at home – 1-4 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five on home turf. However, the G-Men have fared very well against the Redskins in recent meetings. New York is 6-1 SU in their last 7 games when playing Washington, and 7-3-1- ATS in their last 11 games versus the Skins. The Giants are 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games at home against Washington.

New York proved last week that they are a borderline contender. If they can win in Dallas, a home date with a freefalling Redskins team shouldn’t be an issue. Seven points in a healthy Spread but I like the G-Men to cover easily on home turf.

Pick: NY Giants -7

Detroit at Oakland

Sunday, December 18, 4:05 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Lions -1

The Detroit Lions head West to take on an Oakland Raiders squad that has lost two straight games and have all but fallen out of the AFC West playoff race. Detroit still has a ton to play for – a Wild card berth in the NFC is theirs as long as they keep winning. Any slipup however could result in another team occupying the last NFC playoff spot.

Detroit is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games, is 12-5 SU in its last 17 games and is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games on the road. The Lions are 2-4 SU and 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing Oakland. Oakland is 1-3-1 ATS in its last 5 games at home.

Detroit isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire but they are playing well enough to defeat an injury riddled Oakland offense. Carson Palmer has been a turnover machine and as the Lions showed last week, they are more than able to take a turnover to the house. With Ndamukong Suh back in the fold, expect Detroit’s defense to force a few mistakes and to give its offense a few short field to work with.

Oakland made a heck of a run but it appears as though midnight has struck for this Cinderella team. The Lions passing game is clicking without typical efforts from Calvin Johnson. Expect Johnson to get back on track this week and for the Lions to easily cover the 1 point spread.

Pick: Detroit Lions -1

New England at Denver

Sunday, December 18, 4:15 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Patriots -6

Two teams with impressive win streaks meet in Denver on Sunday when the New England Patriots, winners of five straight games meet the Denver Broncos who have won six straight. Denver has been impressive – Tebowmania is a real thing and it is seeping the NFL like no other story in decades. Will the Broncos defense be able to hold the Pats offense down long enough for a patented Bronco comeback? Highly unlikely.

New England is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games, is 9-2 SU and 8-2-1 ATS in its last 11 games on the road. New England is a brutal 4-17 SU in its last 21 games when playing Denver and is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games when playing the Broncos. In Denver, New England is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games and is 2-12 SU in its last 14 games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Denver is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games and is 5-0-1 ATS in its last 6 games. Denver is 1-4-1 ATS in its last 6 games at home but is 12-2 SU in its last 14 games when playing at home against New England.

Denver has had a lot of success against the Patriots in recent meetings but the Pats are playing at an extremely high level at the moment. The Broncos success has been almost exclusively due to the fact that they have kept teams close and have limited the opposition’s scoring in the first three quarters of the game. That won’t happen against New England. Look for the Patriots to build a lead early and to force the Broncos into uncharacteristic mistakes. Denver is good but the Patriots are elite!

Pick: New England Patriots -6

NY Jets at Philadelphia

Sunday, December 18, 4:15 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Eagles -3

The New York Jets head to the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday with the aim of keeping their playoff hopes alive. Their opponent – the Philadelphia Eagles who looked good in Michael Vick’s return from injury in Week 14. Both teams are getting healthy so one has to expect a very closely contested contest.

The Jets have won three straight games and are 6-2 SU in their last eight games. The Jets are 15-8 SU in their last 23 games on the road but are just 2-5 SU and ATS in their last seven away from home. New York is 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against the Eagles.

Philadelphia is 2-11 SU in their last 16 games and is 2-4 ATS in their last six. The Eagles are 1-8 SU in their last nine games at home and are 1-6 ATS in their last seven on home turf.

New York has won three straight games and is playing their best football of the season. It is hard to imagine Philadelphia’s 18th ranked run defense slowing down Shonn Greene in this one. Expect the Jets to control the clock with Greene and for Mark Sanchez to utilize Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress when absolutely necessary. New York is on a mission – time to put their money where Rex Ryan’s enormous mouth is!
