NFL Betting – Packers Travel To Atlanta For Clash Of NFC Contenders Sunday

The formula is the same for both the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons, two teams that meet at the Georgia Dome this Sunday in a clash of NFC contenders. Outstanding young quarterbacks and stingy defense have made both a favorite to represent the conference in the Super Bowl this year and both are at the top of their respective divisions.

Even so, the Falcons are looking for respect even though they have the best record in the NFC at 8-2.

How Can Green Bay Win?

The Packers have averaged over 28 points during their current four-game winning streak and with the rushing attack virtually non-existent without running back Ryan Grant in the lineup, it will be up to Rodgers to deliver once again. Rodgers threw for 301 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in last Sunday’s 31-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings, with three of those touchdowns being reeled in by wide receiver Greg Jennings. Jennings will be the go-to target once again this week against a Falcons’ defense that has been solid against the run, but a little flimsy against the pass. Green Bay owns one of the stingiest defenses in the league and has held its last three opponents to a total of 10 points while forcing nine turnovers.

How Can Atlanta Win?

The key to the Falcons’  success will be limiting mistakes and not allowing the ball to go back in the hands of Rodgers by turning it over. While head coach Mike Smith will call upon Ryan to guide the offense, Atlanta may be best to let running back Michael Turner serve as the focal point of the offense. Turner has averaged 4.3 yards per carry with six touchdowns this season and if he can keep the pressure off of the passing game, the Falcons will move the ball with ease. Atlanta will not be able to stop Rodgers and the passing game completely, but slowing them down and causing turnovers could make the crucial difference.

Outlook

Both teams have won five straight games heading in to this Sunday’s meeting, with the Falcons’  Matt Ryan and Packers’ Aaron Rodgers both ranking among the best quarterbacks in the NFC. Atlanta has the chance to extend the separation from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints for the division lead, but will be in tough against a Packers’ team looking to pull ahead of the Chicago Bears for top spot in the NFC North.

But the Falcons are 18-1 at the Georgia Dome with Ryan under center and will be aiming for their 15th straight win this Sunday. While it won’t be easy against a talented Packers’ team that is finally getting the recognition it deserves as one of the best in the league, the home advantage will play a significant role in helping Atlanta extend its lead in the NFC.

Pick: Falcons – 2
