New York’s 49-9 loss to Cincinnati last weekend was one of the worst in Rex Ryan’s tenure with the team.

The Jets were able to get very little done offensively in that game. Quarterback Geno Smith completed 20 of 30 passes for 159 yards with a pair of interceptions. The team’s rushing attack was even less effective.

The team’s backs combined to carry the ball 22 times for 85 yards, good for an average of just 3.8 yards per carry. Bilal Powell got the most of those looks but could turn his 10 carries into just 19 yards.

On the flip side, Cincinnati did what they wanted on offense. Quarterback Andy Dalton completed 19 of 30 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns with an interception. Marvin Jones was his favorite target, bringing in eight balls for 122 yards and four scores, as the Jets simply had no answer for him. Stud receiver A.J. Green caught three balls for 115 yards. The Jets’ rush defense remained surprisingly strong though, limiting the Bengals to an average of 3.2 yards per carry on 25 totes. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The team will copy the Patriots’ blueprint in looking to get out of their slump, as they are rumoured to plan on using top cornerback Antonio Cromartie to cover the Saints’ top offensive weapon, Jimmy Graham. New England put their top cornerback, Aqib Talib, on Graham in Week 6 and held him without a catch.

New Orleans didn’t have any trouble in that department last weekend in a 35-17 win over Buffalo, as Graham was hit with a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Drew Brees threw five in all, gaining 332 yards through the air in the game.

The improved New Orleans defense had another good game, holding the Bills under 300 yards of offense while forcing three turnovers in the game. David Hawthorne led the unit with eight solo tackles and a sack.

The Saints are capable of ripping opponents to shreds in the Superdome, but they’ve had a little more trouble on the road. The Jets might not get the credit they deserve either. Their defense has been outstanding this season with the exception of last week’s meeting hiccup against Cincinnati. Don’t be surprised if Drew Brees is stifled come halftime as the Saints are forced to grind this one out in what should be an affair more physical than New Orleans wants.

The Jets are 4-0 ATS in their last four games after scoring fewer than 15 points in their previous game.

The play: New York Jets +6.5
