The Panthers have won each of their last three games, scoring 30 or more points each time, winning each game by at least 15 points. If we go back a little further, that statement is true of four of their last five games. Most recently, the team beat Tampa Bay a week ago, 31-13.

Carolina’s eighth-ranked rushing attack actually had a rather pedestrian day against Tampa Bay, churning out 129 yards. Most of those yards came from the quarterback, as Cam Newton carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards and a score. He also completed 23 of his 32 passes for 221 yards and a pair of scores. DeAngelo Williams also had a good day despite limited usage, turning eight carries into 43 yards and a score. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Carolina defense has been one of the more underrated units in football, ranking second in opponent rushing yards by holding them to just 79.3 yards per game. The unit held Tampa Bay to just 48 rushing yards and an average of 3.4 yards per carry. Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon put the ball up 51 times, completing 30 of those attempts for 275 yards and a touchdown.

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a loss against an underrated Cardinals team in Arizona, 27-13. Quarterback Matt Ryan completed 34 of a whopping 61 pass attempts for 301 yards and a score with four interceptions. That’s not the kind of day the team wants to see from their franchise quarterback. Harry Douglas was again Ryan’s top target, hauling in 12 balls for 121 yards. He may be again this weekend with Roddy White listed as a game-time decision. Running back Steven Jackson returned from injury but could turn his 11 carries into just six yards.

The banged-up Atlanta defense allowed Andre Ellington to have a field day, as he ran the ball 15 times for 154 yards and a score. Carson Palmer was able to throw for a pair of scores, connecting with Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.

The Carolina defense has quietly been very good this season, with the unit not allowing a single touchdown in the first half of any of their games this season, but they haven’t displayed the kind of consistency that would warrant being installed as favorites of more than a touchdown. While Atlanta’s fall has been steep, they may be able to turn things around coming out of their bye, and if nothing else, keep close against a division opponent.

The Falcons are 18-6 ATS in their last 24 games after scoring 15 points or fewer in their previous game.

The play: Atlanta +7.5
