Sunday Night NFL Betting – Saints In Tough In Rebound Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers needed to tread water during the Ben Roethlisberger suspension; instead they went 3-1 before winning two straight prior to their big match against the defending Super Bowl champ. The Steelers escaped with a win last week in Miami, getting a friendly fumble call late in the game but they played well enough to win and have definitely earned their current stature as the class of the AFC.

The New Orleans Saints, on the other hand, are anything but the class of the NFC. New Orleans is coming off the shocker of the season, losing 30-17 at home to the Cleveland Browns. Drew Brees and the Saints have struggled but there is no way they’re as bad as they looked last week. Unfortunately, it only gets harder against the Steelers.

How Can Pittsburgh Win?

The Steelers have been playing Steeler football this season, and it’s worked out. A strong run game with an effective passing attack and a dominating defense equals wins. It seems easy enough to say it, but the Steelers do it with such consistency that it’s almost too easy.

However, there are some tweaks they can make in this game. Despite the struggles last week, Brees is still one of the best in the game. The Steelers pass defense had its struggles with Chad Henne last week; how much trouble could Brees give them? But that’s really the only problem. The rush defense is great, Roethlisberger is quickly getting back into form and the rest of the team is catching up with him. If they can tweak their pass defense back into top shape, they’ll be tough to beat.

How Can New Orleans Win?

Nothing went right for the Saints last week. They couldn’t throw the ball, they couldn’t run the ball, and they couldn’t stop either of facets of their opponent’s game. Reggie Bush is back practicing with the team and it would be a big boost if he played and contributed, but he’s not expected to. If New Orleans wants to win this game, they first and foremost have to get their passing game going again. If that works, then they have to hope the Steelers pass defense troubles carry on to another week. Pittsburgh is playing their second straight road game and they should be a bit weary. New Orleans didn’t look sharp last week but maybe it’s their opponent that plays that role this week.

Outlook

This is one of the premiere games of the season, although the Saints probably didn’t think they were going to enter this game on a loss. New Orleans is not as dominant as they were last year, but they are still a very good club. The Steelers, however, look like Super Bowl contenders. It’s going to be a great game, but the Steelers are playing better right now and should come out on top.
