The Giants were fortunate to go up against Josh Freeman in his first start with the Vikings on Monday night. While the Vikings were held to just seven points in that game, it felt like that had a lot more to do with Freeman’s ineptness than New York playing better.

New York came away with a 23-7 win in that contest. Quarterback Eli Manning completed just 23 of 39 passes for 200 yards, but one positive to draw off of is that he played his first game of the season without throwing an interception. Picked up off the street during the week, running back Peyton Hillis scored on a one-yard plunge.

The New York defense focused in on Adrian Peterson and limited him to just 28 yards rushing on the night. Minnesota’s only points in the game came on an 86-yard punt return by Marcus Sherels. The Minnesota special teams unit couldn’t have been happy with their performance though, with two fumbles lost on returns. The pass defense effectively had the night off with Freeman routinely missing open targets, overthrowing a record 16 attempts. He completed just 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Philadelphia offense had a forgettable day against Dallas. Chip Kelly’s unit had racked up 400 or more yards of offense in each of their first six games, but they were held to just 278 yards against the Cowboys. Running back LeSean McCoy was held to 55 yards on 18 carries, and quarterback Nick Foles completed just 11 of 29 passes for 80 yards. The team gets back Michael Vick this weekend and they surely hope that will help them to turn things around.

The Eagle defense bent but didn’t break against the Cowboys. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo threw for 317 yards but only one touchdown in the game. The Eagles picked him off twice in Philadelphia territory. The team’s only points on the day came off an interception by DeMeco Ryans that he returned 36 yards. With the loss, the Eagles have lost nine games in a row at home.

The Eagles’ performance against the Cowboys felt more like an apparition than a trend, and while the Giants are coming off a win, that was more a case of the Vikings beating themselves than the Giants turning things around. New York still has plenty of work to do, and a tough Philadelphia offense that doesn’t let up will expose many of those weaknesses.

The Eagles are 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings between these teams.

The play: Philadelphia -6
