Pittsburgh probably wants to put everything that happened prior to their bye week behind them, but their final contest before the break was actually their best effort.

The Steelers put a scare into the Bears, but they really gave the Vikings a ride for their money in a 34-27 loss. Le’Veon Bell returned from injury for that contest and hit the ground running, turning 20 touches into 84 yards and two touchdowns.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 36 of the 51 passes he threw for 383 yards and a score with an interception. Big Ben was sacked five times and complained about the team’s poor pass protection after the game. Antonio Brown was his favorite target on the night, as the two connected 12 times for 88 yards.

Defensively, the Steelers had trouble slowing Adrian Peterson, as most teams do, allowing him to run for 140 yards and two scores on 23 totes. Greg Jennings and Jerome Simpson also combined for 216 yards and two scores on 10 receptions.

Things have gone very differently for the Jets this season. They’re coming off of one of their best performances of the season, beating Atlanta, 30-28. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The big performer from that contest was quarterback Geno Smith who was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts, completing 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards and three scores, rushing for an additional 21 yards. Jeremy Kerley was his favorite target out of an injury-plagued group of receivers, catching five balls for 68 yards and a score.

The team’s success on the ground was spread out, with 22 team carries turning into 118 yards for an average of 5.4 yards per tote.

Defensively, the Jets allowed the Falcons to turn out yards at will, but made key stops when necessary, including a big stop at their goal line on the final play of the first half. Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez had big days through the air, with Jones bringing in eight balls for 99 yards and Gonzalez hauling in 10 balls for 97 yards, and Matt Ryan threw for over 300 yards.

The Jets limited the Falcons to 2.9 yards per carry in the contest.

The Steelers are 0-4 ATS on the season, so there won’t be a ton of bettors lining up to get behind them in this one. New York is hot, they run the ball well, and play good defense. Expect another solid outing from Smith in front of his home crowd.

The Jets are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games played in the month of October.
