The Cowboys have won two straight to gain back control of the wide-open NFC East while the Bears have lost three of four games but still sit just one game back in the NFC North.

Chicago in December may be a bigger roadblock than the defenses in this game. The long-range forecast for Monday calls for temperatures in the low teens at kick-off, with a 15-percent chance of precipitation and crosswinds of about 15 – ugh!

The Dallas Cowboys won’t get many style points for their 7-5 record but they are in first in the NFC East and they currently hold a tiebreaker over the Philadelphia Eagles. The biggest problem for the Cowboys – defense! This unit has been brutal all season long and enters Monday’s game last in total defense and second-last in passing yards allowed. The Dallas defense has stopped nobody this year forcing the offense to score 30 every game or lose!

It’s a good thing for Tony Romo and the Dallas offense. Romo and the passing game are ranked 15th in the NFL (shocking that it is actually that low) – Romo himself has 3,140 yards through the air and 24 TDs with a couple of costly, ill-times interceptions mixed in there. Dez Bryant has arrived at Stud-Status (68 catches, 896 yards and 9 TDs) and Jason Witten has been typically solid (52 catches, 622 yards and 6 TDs).

The Dallas running game has been a disappointment this year and that is where other teams have exploited the Chicago defense. Dallas is 27th in the NFL in rushing and DeMarco Murray has 697 yards on the ground and 6 TDs. Murray absolutely has to be featured Monday – are you listening Jason Garrett?

Now for the Bears. They have lost three of their last four games and will be without their leader Jay Cutler again Monday night. But Josh McCown has played well in relief and has given his team a chance to win every time out. It would be hard for McCown to fail – he has Brandon Marshall (78 catches, 990 yards and 9 TDs) and Alshon Jeffrey (70 catches, 1109 yards, 5 TDs) to throw to along with security blanket Martellus Bennett.

Matt Forte has also been a terrific tool for this offense in the absence of Cutler. He has 971 rushing yards and 7 TDs along with 58 catches, 445 yards and a TD out of the backfield.

Chicago continues to be a balanced offense despite the absence of Cutler – too bad about their defense.

Shockingly the weakness of the Bears in 2013 has been their defense – awful up until this point of the season. Injuries have played a part but poor play has been just as evident among the previously solid starters. The Bears are 28th in the NFL in total yards allowed per game and they are last in the league in rushing yards allowed – shocking as it may seem.

Monday Night Football Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:
• DAL are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 Mon. games.
• Under is 6-2 in DAL last 8 games on grass.
• DAL are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. NFC.
• CHI are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games.
• CHI are 5-17-1 ATS in their last 23 games overall.
• CHI are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games in Week 14.

Bad defenses do battle Monday – I expect a high scoring game. A telling stat – the Bears are just 2-9-1 ATS in their 12 games this year while the Cowboys are 8-4. I expect that trend to continue Monday. The defenses are awash leaving us to decide who the better offense is ahead of this matchup. For me the choice is clear.
