The Jets have alternated wins and losses all season, which would mean they’re in line for a loss this week, unless the bye week has the team back in line for win against the Bills. In their last contest, the Jets looked like world-beaters in a 26-20 win over the Saints.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith went toe-to-toe with Saints quarterback Drew Brees in the team’s last game before the bye and came out on top, but not because of his play. Smith completed just eight of 19 passes for 115 years, although he did add a rushing touchdown and didn’t turn the ball over.

The team’s offensive hero was running back Chris Ivory, who ran the ball 18 times for 139 yards and a score against his former team.

Smith could get some extra help this week with the return of wide receiver Santonio Holmes, although that running game will surely be leaned on once again.

The Jets defense allowed Drew Brees to throw for 382 yards and two scores in the game, although they did pick him off twice. The unit looked helpless to stop Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who brought in nine balls for 116 yards and two scores.

Buffalo’s last game didn’t go quite so well, falling to Pittsburgh by a final score of 23-10 in a game that was never really that close. A positive for the team is that they did get back quarterback EJ Manuel, although the rookie had an understandably tough time against Dick LeBeau’s defense.

He completed 22 of 39 passes for just 155 yards with an interception and a meaningless touchdown in the final seconds of the game. He also moved around well, rushing twice for 17 yards. The team’s ground game had a surprisingly tough time with C.J. Spiller rushing eight times for just 23 yards, although Fred Jackson did churn out 55 yards on 12 carries.

The Buffalo defense did a decent job against the run in that game, with lead dog LeVeon Bell gaining just 57 yards on 22 carries, while Ben Roethlisberger completed 18 of 30 passes for 204 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win.

The Bills defense continues to get to opposing quarterbacks, getting to Roethlisberger four times for 40 yards lost.

The Jets have dominated the Bills in recent years, and Rex Ryan has had an extra week to prepare for a Buffalo offense that is shambles to begin with. It’s almost always better to take the home side in a battle of rookie quarterbacks, but this is an exception.

The play: New York Jets +1
