The Titans leaned heavily on the run in their last game against the Rams and had tremendous results in a 28-21 win.

Running back Chris Johnson carried the bulk of the load, carrying the ball 23 times for 150 yards and a pair of scores, and got his work in consistently, rather than padding his total with a long run, averaging 6.5 yards per carry with a long run of just 24 yards.

Running back Shonn Greene played his biggest role of the season, turning 10 touches into 66 yards and a score. Quarterback Jake Locker completed just 13 of 22 passes with two interceptions. His best play of the game came on the ground when he ran for the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The Titan defense was ripped to shreds by Zac Stacy in the game. Stacy turned 33 touches into 178 yards with a pair of touchdowns. The team’s rush defense had been a strength prior to that game so the Ram game was probably an outlier. The unit had a little more success against the pass. Kellen Clemens completed just 20 of 35 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown.

Jacksonville is coming off a bye, but before that they were ripped to shreds by San Francisco in London, 42-10. The team’s ground game was stuck in the mud all day. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew continued a disappointing season, rushing for 75 yards on 19 carries. Quarterback Chad Henne completed 29 of 45 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown. The team will be without Justin Blackmon in this game. Expect larger roles for Cecil Shorts III and Mike Brown, who combined for 117 yards and a score on 10 receptions. Maurice Jones-Drew also played a larger role in the passing game against San Francisco, hauling in a season-high six passes.

The team’s defense let San Francisco do what they wanted on the ground. The 49ers ran the ball 38 times versus only 17 passes attempts and averaged 5.8 yards per carry with four rushing touchdowns.

It’s easy to envision Tennessee running away with this one given the season Jacksonville has had, but the Titans simply haven’t shown enough to be giving away this many points to anyone. Jacksonville’s passing attack has been more than competent in recent weeks and with a week to prepare they should be able to get something going. With that said, the Titan rushing attack should have its way with a soft Jaguar defense.
