One of the most disappointing teams during the 2012 campaign the Philadelphia Eagles kick off their season against one of the true surprises of last year the Washington Redskins in the first of two Monday Nighters in Week 1 with the Skins early favorites to start their season in style.

The Eagles have a new regime with a new philosophy with largely the same players in camp while the Skins will be looking to build on a year with largely the same roster.

The Chip Kelly era begins Monday night and from early indications, the playmakers on the Eagles team seem to fit Kelly’s offensive philosophy to a tee. The “Blur offense” relies on speed and quick plays keeping opposing defenses off guard.

It worked in college – the question remains whether or not the speed game will translate to the NFL.

Make no mistake about it – the Eagles have some talent far beyond what drove them to a 4-12 record last year. Michael Vick, assuming he stays healthy, LeSean McCoy, assuming he stays healthy and DeSean Jackson, assuming his head is on right strike the fear of God into any opposing defense and judging by the talk coming out of camp all are on the same page heading into the season.

The offensive line appears to be shored up and finally healthy and the culture of optimism seems rampant ahead of Philadelphia’s 2013 campaign.

The Washington Redskins are 3-0 ATS in their last three season openers dating back to 2010. They were 11-5 ATS in 2012 and went a perfect 7-0 against the number after its bye week. But they enter the season with a huge question mark at Quarterback.

How will Robert Griffin’s knee hold up and how will the affects of his injury affect the way he goes about business on the field?

Washington still has one of the more promising running backs in the game in Alfred Morris. He will be a factor Monday and for the rest of the season for Washington. Fed Davis and Pierre Garcon are healthy making for a balanced, dangerous offense for the Skins. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Washington’s defense is the X-factor heading into Monday’s game – the team did little to improve the D in the offseason which could come back to haunt them.

The Skins will be the first test for the revolutionary offense that Chip Kelly brings to the NFL – my guess is that it takes a few weeks for NFL Defensive Coordinators to figure out what to do with the “Blur Offense”.

A few trends to consider:

• PHI are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 vs. NFC.
• PHI are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
• Under is 8-2 in PHI last 10 road games.
• WAS are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
• WAS are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 vs. NFC East.
• Under is 6-2 in WAS last 8 vs. NFC.
• Road team is 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings.

Simply put the Eagles are a much better team than they showed last year and the Skins may have overachieved just a bit.

Philadelphia always had the talent – they lacked a scheme that fit their players and they were void of the confidence and optimism that their new coach has brought with him.

The Eagles make a statement on Monday night and at very least keep this game extremely close. I love the Eagles to be the bounceback team of the league this year and it all starts in Landover Monday night!

Pick: Philadelphia Eagles +3 1/2
