NFC Least Battle – Bumbling Eagles Take on Confusing Cowboys on Sunday Night

Two of the more disappointing teams in the NFL meet on Sunday Night Football this week when the Philadelphia Eagles, losers of seven straight games head to Dallas to take on a Cowboys team that just can’t seem to win the big game. Offense and defense have been issues for both teams so far this season – will any one of the teams put it all together and save their coach’s job? Stay tuned!

The Philadelphia Eagles are a bad club folks – injuries and a lack of execution have made this a lost season in the City of Brotherly Love! They have lost seven in a row with no real reason for optimism. Michael Vick is getting closer to a return and could be back this week but DeSean Jackson was lost for the season and the Eagles just released arguably their best defensive player Jason Babin – I have no explanation!

The Eagles enter Sunday night’s game with the league’s 17th ranked passing game and the 9th ranked rushing attack. Not bad until you look at the miserable turnover ratio that this team has. They just can’t seem to hold onto the ball – you can count on 2 1/2 turnovers per game from this team – not nearly good enough to win! Philadelphia is also 30th in scoring in the NFL – 16.73 points per game – also not nearly good enough!

Defensively the Eagles have been as much of a mess as they have been offensively. Big plays have murdered this team. Heading into Sunday’s game the Eagles are 15th against the pass, 18th against the run and they are 25th in points against – 25.64 per game. The defense is also 30th in creating turnovers – 0.91 per game.

When you score an average of 10 points less than your opposition and you turn the ball over 1 1/2 more times per game that your opposition – you lose! Period!

The Dallas Cowboys have been teasing us all year! They continue to be one of the most inconsistent teams in the league but somehow they still have a chance to get into the playoffs – unreal! The passing offense has been fine. Tony Romo and gang are 3rd in the NFL in passing although this squad certainly isn’t immune to its share of turnovers!

The running game has missed DeMarco Murray indeed – Murray could return this week although he is looking extremely iffy! Dallas is inexplicably the worst rushing team in the NFL averaging just 78.73 yards on the ground – hard to believe. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Dallas defense has been good this year, although they are not as great as Rob Ryan would have you think. Their problem? Giving up the Big Play which they have done in abundance this year. The Cowboys are 9th against the pass and 13th against the run but turnovers from the offense have contributed to them being 20th ranked in points allowed with an average of 23.82 points per game allowed this season.

Betting Prediction: The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Philadelphia’s last 5 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games
• Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
• Philadelphia is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 15 of Dallas’s last 22 games at home
• The total has gone UNDER in 15 of Dallas’s last 23 games
• Dallas is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games at home
• Dallas is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games

A 10 point spread shows how much that the oddsmakers have given up on the Eagles! And I don’t blame them. But in a divisional game, I expect the Eagles to keep this game somewhat close. Michael Vick may return, the DeSean Jackson sideshow will be at home and the Eagles should have some motivation going into this game. Pride is a funny thing – it allows the Eagles to cover the 10 point spread!

Pick: Philadelphia Eagles +10
