Super Bowl XLVI Preview | Patriots Odds to Win 2012 SuperBowl

Super Bowl 46 – Patriots Sportsbook Lines

While many are questioning the New England Patriots’ performance against the Baltimore Ravens in last weekend’s AFC Championship game, I fail to see the comparison of one lousy game by Tom Brady equating to a New York Giants upset win in Super bowl XLVI.

While Brady is a player that isn’t on a quest for personal accolades, I am sure he cares about his team getting revenge against a Giants team that spoiled the Pats’ perfect 2007-2008 season in the Super Bowl.

Of course, this doesn’t mean his performance against the G-Men will not be MVP-worthy.

In fact, Brady’s passion and desire to rebound and knock New York out by winning a fourth championship for New England, is what will likely earn him three-time Super Bowl MVP honors after the Pats take down the Giants on February 5 in Indy.

So sure, last week’s performance was Brady’s worst of the year, but he still threw for 239 yards and even managed to take one in himself on a critical fourth down, putting his body on the line for what turned out to be the game-winning TD.

But okay, let’s not take anything away from Eli Manning and company.

The first time these two teams met this season, the Giants delivered a stunning blow to the Patriots ego, beating then 24-20 in New England.

Manning was a hero in that one, leading the G-Men to a come-from-behind victory, proving that he can win in the clutch moments. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Manning only needed one minute and 21 seconds to go 80 yards for the win, and if called upon to do it in the Super Bowl, I am sure that he could probably do it again.

But Brady has the clutch gene as well. The real question is the Patriots defense, who by the way had one of its best outings last week against defensive juggernauts Baltimore.

The defense held Baltimore to minus-4 yards on its first three first-down runs and forced the Ravens to go three-and-out each time. The run stoppers shut down the Ravens’ Ray Rice, the league’s total yardage leader, who was limited to 78 yards, while the underrated New England secondary came up bigger than expected in the second half on Brandon Spikes’ fourth-quarter interception.

So?

Well, as for the Giants, you could say that if not for a fumble by San Francisco’s backup punt returner, they would be headed to the golf course instead of the Super bowl.

The Niners’ had Manning on the run every time he held onto the ball for more than a second, and he was far less effective as a result, going 32 for 58 attempts.

Again, the Patriots’ defense doesn’t get a lot of credit as a pass rushing squad, but they managed just two fewer sacks all year than the Niners’, so they are certainly competent and should be able to flush Manning from the comfort of his pocket all game long.

Matt’s Free Super bowl Pick: While, the Giants have the better defense, hype and the momentum going for them, New England has better talent, better depth, and a far better coach.

However, these two teams know a lot about one another, with the final score in the last three meetings between the two, being decided by four points or less.

Nevertheless, mix in the revenge factor, and it spells W-I-N for the Patriots.
