The Jets will hope to have All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, who suffered a strained right hamstring back on Sept. 19, back in time to face one of the league’s most prolific passing attacks when QB Kyle Orton and the Denver Broncos host New York on Sunday.

The Jets boasted the No. 1 ranked pass defense just a season ago but has not been as effective this campaign allowing 234.6 yards per game through the air — 23rd in the league.

Revis did return in Monday’s game against the Vikings, but saw limited action and clearly was not 100 percent. His presence in the New York secondary will be critical as they face the Broncos, who are averaging 346.6 yards a game through the air.

Without Revis the Jets will need to put even more emphasis on its rushing attack, taking pressure off the defense by keeping them off the field for extended periods of time. New York has successfully run the ball and leads the league with 165.2 rushing yards a game so this shouldn’t be a problem.

They demonstrated that capability against Minnesota, rolling up 155 yards on the ground including 151 from LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn “mean machine” Greene. Both should be able to put up some hefty rushing yards as Denver is yielding over 127 rushing yards per game.

Second-year QB Mark Sanchez has made some major improvements and has showed maturity this season after throwing 20 interceptions as a rookie last year.  He contributed 191 yards in Monday night’s win and has passed for 902 yards and 8 TDs on the season, with a passer rating of 91.7.

The Broncos are middle of the road as far as pass defense, so Sanchez should be able to supplement just enough to keep the Denver D guessing.

Denver has won two of the teams previous three matchups, and will be looking to get back on the rails after being punished by Baltimore last week 31-17.

Orton did his part with 314 yards in the game and two touchdowns, and receiver Brandon Lloyd had five receptions for 135 yards and scored both touchdowns in the loss.

Sadly, the Broncos one horse rodeo is being wasted, as Orton has completed 141 of 213 attempts for 1733 yards, and in spite of ranking 2nd in passing yards with 333, they only have two wins to show for it, and the losses could start piling up.

The Broncos has been hit hard by injuries this season and lost three more key players last week. Safety Brian Dawkins, cornerback Andre’ Goodman and linebacker Robert Ayers, as well as running back Knowshon Moreno.

The injury to Moreno will be the most critical as Denver’s rushing attack continues to suffer. He and partner Correll Buckhalter have combined for just three touchdowns and 173 yards.

New York should win this one easily, not out scoring, but out defending the Broncos in a narrow margin victory.
