Denver

The Broncos have been a very inconsistent team so far this year. Denver has two disappointing losses, but they also have two impressive wins on their record. Can the team gain some measure of consistency as the season goes along?

The Denver offense is led by quarterback Kyle Orton. Orton has the highest quarterback rating of his career so far this season. While it would be easy to guess that Indianapolis or a typical prolific passing team is leading the league in passing yards this year, it is actually the Broncos who are first in the NFL in passing yards! Brandon Lloyd is having a huge year so far at the wide receiver spot, and he had 11 catches last weekend at Tennessee. The running game has been non-existent, which is the primary reason they have thrown for so many yards. The move to bring in Laurence Maroney is expected to help their depth at running back. Denver must get more balanced on offense.

The Broncos defense is right around the middle of the pack in the NFL. The secondary has a couple veteran play makers in Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey, but they have given up quite a few yards this year. The defense has only four sacks on the year, which puts a lot of pressure on the cornerbacks.

They did a nice job last weekend slowing down the Titans running game, and they must do the same against Baltimore this week. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Baltimore

The Ravens won the huge AFC North battle against Pittsburgh last weekend. The game went down to the wire, but this team persevered. Baltimore is now tied with Pittsburgh at the top of the AFC North standings.

The Baltimore offense seems to be slowly gaining confidence as the season moves along. Joe Flacco started the season out in very poor fashion, but he has played well in the last two games. It was Flacco’s last second pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh that won last week’s game against Pittsburgh. Ray Rice and the ground game for Baltimore haven’t gotten going the way you would expect. Rice is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and Baltimore is 24th in the NFL in rushing yards. It is taking some time, but I fully expect this offense to find its rhythm and be very good this year.

The Ravens defense has been tremendous in 2010. A team that has a pair of defensive tackles like Kelly Gregg and Haloti Ngata will always be one of the best in the NFL. Ray Lewis is aging a bit, but he is still the fiery leader and he hits as hard as ever. Fabian Washington and Chris Carr had a bit of a target on them going into the season, but the two cornerbacks have done a brilliant job this season. This is a defense that has no real weaknesses right now.

The Pick:

The Baltimore Ravens are a very tough defense to beat no matter what, but if you are as unbalanced as the Broncos it makes it even more difficult. I expect Flacco and the offense to continue their progress and I think Baltimore will win this one fairly easily. I like Baltimore -7.

Denver vs. Baltimore Score Prediction: Baltimore 24 Denver 14
