The Philadelphia Eagles face their first AFC South opponent of the season when they head to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars in a late Sunday afternoon start from EverBank Field.

The big news out of Philadelphia this week was that Michael Vick will remain the team’s starting quarterback in place of Kevin Kolb, who is now fully recovered from a concussion he sustained in Week 1. Vick is coming off an impressive performance in the Eagles 35-32 win over Detroit last Sunday. He completed 21-of-34 attempts for 284 yards and two TD’s and no interceptions.

Vick has been able to use his mobility to move around in the pocket to either buy time to find an open receiver or take off to pick up yardage with his feet. Given the current state of the Eagles’ offensive line it is little wonder that Head Coach Andy Reid believes that Vick, as opposed to a very immobile Kolb, gives them the best chance to win right now. The primary concern for this team has to be their defense. In the first two games the Eagles have given up the most points in the league and are ranked 25th in total yards allowed. The Lions were trailing 35-17 heading into the fourth quarter and were just 20 or so yards away from kicking a game-tying field goal in the closing minutes. The return of MLB Stewart Bradley should help, but they need to do a much better job in almost every phase of the game.

Jacksonville was dealt a dose of reality last week after a big 24-17 win over Denver in Week 1 in a lopsided 38-13 loss to San Diego. Much of this can be pinned on the performance of Jaguar QB David Garrard. Against the Broncos he completed 76.2 percent of his passes for three TD’s and no interceptions. Against the Chargers he completed 65.2 percent of his passes for one TD but threw four interceptions. These along with two fumbles led directly to 17 points for San Diego.

The Jaguars are also struggling on defense as they are ranked 29th in points and total yards allowed. They have given up over 600 yards in the air and 240 yards on the ground in their first two games.

The last time these two teams met in the regular season was in 2006 with the Jaguars coming away with a 13-6 win on the road. Something has to give this time around as both these teams are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games.

The slight edge would have to go to Philadelphia given that Jacksonville is 8-20 ATS in its last 28 games. The Eagles also have the edge at quarterback now that Vick appears to be an even better version of his old self while Garrard continues to struggle with consistency.

Titans/Giants Betting Trends:
