Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens are being picked by many to win the AFC in 2010, and I can’t blame anyone for picking a team like Baltimore. They got the season started out with a 10-9 win over the Jets on Monday Night Football.

The Baltimore offense should be improved again this year. Joe Flacco looked shaky in the opener, but I expect him to have a solid year. Ray Rice has become one of the best runners in the game, and he is great at catching the ball out of the backfield as well. Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh will give Flacco two more great options on the outside. The Ravens have often had trouble finding good wide receivers, but now they have a very solid trio. The line is solid and with Michael Oher leading the way on the left side, I believe they will be a great unit in 2010.

The Ravens defense isn’t quite where they were a few years ago, but they are still very good. If you watched the opener against the Jets, you saw that Ray Lewis still has plenty in the tank. Ngata and Suggs anchor a terrific defensive line that should pressure the quarterback and stop the run very well. The one concern for the Ravens defense right now is the secondary. Ed Reed is hurt and the cornerbacks are fairly inexperienced. The Ravens will need to get to the quarterback to take the pressure off the youngsters in the secondary.

Cincinnati:

The Bengals were absolutely embarrassed in their opening week loss at New England. Cincinnati came back and put some points on the board in the second half, but they were really out of the game by halftime.Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

The Cincinnati offense is led by Carson Palmer, who was once considered one of the top three or four quarterbacks in the league. Since his injury a few seasons ago, Palmer has never regained that top form. The Bengals went out in the offseason and made sure Palmer would have plenty of weapons to throw the ball to. Terrell Owens and Jermaine Gresham join Chad Ocho Cinco to make a very nice trio of targets for Palmer. Cedric Benson was great last year, but the Bengals need some more balance in their offense. If the Bengals can get the same kind of year out of Benson and get a consistent passing attack, this will be a tough offense to stop.

The Bengals defense was the primary reason they made the playoffs last season. The defense was ranked in the top five in the league, and they were great at forcing turnovers. In week one, the Patriots absolutely chewed up this defense. It is only one week, but Bengals fans are certainly concerned. The Bengals have a top pair of corners in Joseph and Hall, and they also have some very good talented linebackers. Expect teams to try to beat the Bengals deep some this year, as the safeties tend to cheat up and play the run.

The Pick:

Until we see more from the Bengals than what he saw last week, I have to give the Ravens the slight edge here. Palmer will have a chance to throw the ball on the weak secondary, but only if the line gives him time. I think Baltimore will be a tough team to beat this year. The Ravens -2.5 looks like the best play here.

Baltimore vs. Cincinnati Score Prediction: Baltimore 24 Cincinnati 17
