The Washington Redskins will try to keep their playoff hopes intact with a win when they travel to the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey for a Sunday afternoon game against the New York Giants. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast regionally on Fox.

Washington’s season is at a crossroads as another loss could very well be the kiss of death for a shot at making the postseason. Last week’s 17-13 loss to Minnesota, in a game the Redskins were a 2 ½ point home favorite, certainly did not help their cause. The loss dropped them to 5-6 straight-up for the year and to 5-5-1 against the spread. They find themselves two games out of the lead in the NFC East behind the Giants and Philadelphia.

The problems with Washington have been two-fold so far this year. First, it has a defense that is giving up 23.8 points per game, which ranks it 21st in the league and is almost as bad against the run as it is against the pass. Second, it has an offense that is averaging 19.5 points per game, which ranks it 25th. This is a bad combination when you play in a division that has teams like New York and Philly that know how to put the ball in the end zone. NFL Betting

New York halted a two game losing skid with a 24-20 win over Jacksonville last Sunday, but could not cover as a 7 ½ point home favorite. The Giants came very close to letting this game get away from them after spotting the Jaguars a 17-6 lead at the half, but QB Eli Manning’s two second half touchdown throws were enough to seal the win. New York is now 7-4 SU and 5-6 ATS overall. They are 4-2 SU at home this season but just 2-4 ATS.

Manning will once again be without WR Hakeem Nicks, who is out until mid-December with a leg injury. Last week he turned to TE Kevin Boss and WR Mario Manningham to fill the void left by his favorite target and these two should once again be a big part of the game plan against Washington. RB Brandon Jacobs should see the majority of the carries after leading the team with 87 yards rushing last week. Ahmad Bradshaw is the team’s leading rusher, but has had trouble from time to time holding onto the ball.

Trends:

Washington is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine road games and is 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven as a road underdog. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the Redskins last five games in December.
New York is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite and 7-15 ATS in its last 22 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in eight of the Giants last nine games against the NFC East.

Head-to-head, the Giants have won the last four games SU and is 3-0-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’  in the last two.

New York has won the last four games by a 16-point average margin of victory with the Redskins scoring a total of 43 points. Bet on this trend to last at least one more game as Washington’s defense will struggle to stop the Giants and its offense will not be able to score enough points to keep things close. The Pick: New York -7 and UNDER
