The NFC East first place Philadelphia Eagles take on the NFC North first place Chicago Bears in a key conference showdown this Sunday afternoon. Kickoff from Soldier Field is set for 4:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

Philadelphia comes into this game on a roll after winning its last three games in a row. The Eagles followed up impressive wins over Indianapolis and Washington with a 27-17 win over the New York Giants last Sunday night. They covered as 3 ½  point home favorite and the total stayed ‘under’ the 47 ½  point total. The recent winning streak has boosted their record to 7-3 straight-up and 5-5 against the spread. Philadelphia currently has a one game lead over New York in the division.

Much of the Eagles’ success this season can be attributed to the play of quarterback Michael Vick, who has established himself as the early favorite to win this year’s  ‘Most Valuable Player’ award. He has only started seven games this season, but has thrown for 1,608 yards and 11 touchdowns with no interceptions and ran for 375 more, scoring five TD’s along the way. He is completing a career-high 62.8 percent of his passes and has an overall rating of 108.7, the highest in the league. It also helps that he has WR’s DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin along with RB LeSean McCoy surrounding him.

Chicago is quietly becoming one of the most dangerous teams in the NFC. The Bears are not the flashiest team and do not look all that good on paper, but they do know how to do the most important thing in this league; win. Chicago has won its last three games as well with victories over Buffalo, Minnesota, and Miami. The Bears are tied atop the division with Green Bay and are 7-3 SU and 5-4-1 ATS. NFL Betting

The primary strength of this team has been a defense that is ranked third overall and first in points allowed; giving up an average of just 14.6 points per game. Chicago has been especially good against the run; giving up an average of just 78 yards per game.

Offensively the Bears do not look nearly as good; ranking 30th overall and 25th in scoring; averaging 19.1 points per game, but they continue to find ways to score just enough points to win. The positive for this unit has been the play of often maligned QB Jay Cutler. He is completing 61.3 percent of his passes and has dramatically cut down on throwing interceptions after leading the league last season with 26. Despite this improvement, he is still prone to an occasional meltdown in judgement which should play right into the hands of the Eagles’ ball-hawking defense.

Trends:

Philadelphia is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games as a road favorite and 4-0 ATS in its last four games against the NFC. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of the Eagles last six games overall.
Chicago is 5-1 ATS in its last six games as an underdog, but just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 home games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in the Bears last four games overall.

Head-to-head, the road team is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’  in four of their last five games.

The Eagles are primed for another successful stretch run especially with one of the most prolific offenses in the league. Their defensive secondary has been suspect at times, but Philadelphia leads the league with a turnover ratio of +15.

Chicago has only one win against a team with a winning record and its defense has yet to be tested by a team of Philadelphia’s caliber. The cream rises to the top in this one as Philly rolls again.

The Pick: Philadelphia -3 ½ and OVER
