A pair of 2-7 teams in desperate need of a win square off against one another when the Detroit Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday afternoon at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on FOX.

Detroit may be thought of as one of the best teams in the league with a losing record, but last week’s 14-12 loss to the previous winless Buffalo Bills did not help to state its case. The Lions were a 1 ½ point road underdog, but they blew a perfect opportunity to keep pace with the rest of the teams in the NFC North by losing a game they could have very easily won. The loss dropped them to 2-7 straight-up on the year, but it was only their second loss of the season against the spread. They are currently in last place in the division; four games out of the lead.

Detroit will most likely be going with QB Shaun Hill the rest of the way with Matthew Stafford out indefinitely with another shoulder injury. Hill has actually played pretty well, completing 60.5 percent of his passes for 1,632 yards and 10 TD’s. It’s the Lions’ 30th ranked running game that has made this team one-dimensional. Rookie RB Jahvid Best leads the team with 380 yard rushing but he is only averaging 3.1 yards per carry. NFL Betting

First-round draft pick Ndamukong Suh has certainly made his presence felt and is on his way to a possible defensive rookie-of-the-year award, but Detroit’s defense as a whole continues to drag this team down. It is ranked 21st overall and 20th in points allowed.

The Jason Garrett era in Dallas got off to a rousing start with an impressive 33-20 victory over the Giants last week. QB John Kitna completed 13-of-22 attempts for 327 yards and three TD’s to lead the Cowboys to just their second win of the year. They are currently 2-7 both SU and ATS this season and in last place in the NFC East.

You would have to think that just about everyone on Dallas’s roster is auditioning for their job as team owner Jerry Jones has made it very clear that he is using the second half of this disaster of a season to evaluate each and everyone’s performance from the head coach right down to the water boy. That kind of pressure has a way of bringing out the best in a team that is still one of the most talented in the league.

Detroit is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games as an underdog and 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last six games overall.

Dallas is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games against the NFC and 1-5 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in its last six games overall.

The trends are stacked against the Cowboys in this game but this is an unusual situation for Dallas. If they continue to play to their capabilities, like they did last week, the ‘Boys could actually run the table or get very close to ending the year with a .500 record. Unfortunately for the Lions, they are catching this team at the wrong time as the Cowboys are primed to roll again this week.

The Pick: Dallas -6 ½ and OVER
